Wednesday, July 1 is the official beginning of the 2015-16 Rotary year worldwide. And in Beaumont, we will celebrate with the Installation of Club officers and Directors and incoming President, Pat Anderson.
As the gavel is passed to Pat, another new year begins for the Club, building on a strong foundation and looking forward to another year of service and fellowship.
We need your help on July 4th for the "Show Your Colors" Flag Project on this important holiday.
Joe Evans will be the 2015-16 Chairman of this project and he is "learning the ropes" from Pat Anderson and George Pate this holiday. Please let one of the three of them know you can serve.
If you own or have access to a truck, we really need you too!
At least tentatively, Saturday, July 11 will be the day we plan to start work! Be there if you can.
The Club will be providing expertise and a labor force to help Nutrition and Services for Seniors as they build a garden to plant, grow and provide fresh produce for seniors and the homebound who receive meal delivery. Such a great project and we are excited to have the opportunity to assist with this effort as our quarterly undertaking!
Plan to bring work gloves, a hat, sunscreen, and a power screwdriver if you have one.

Wednesday was Vernon’s Swan song. The good news was that we had plenty of material to work with.Vernon was masterfully played by Michael Perez who managed to mispronounce virtually every word he uttered.
The event started out with Lynn and "Cousin" Shawn Pierce singing “Born to be Wild” with Rotary lyrics inserted. (Apparently, singing on key was not a requirement for this segment of the show).
Shortly thereafter Tom Broussard made a cameo appearance with his prayer set to the music of “Oh Lord, won’t you buy me a Mercedes-Benz”? Unlike the previous singing duet, Tom, for the most part, sang on key and his singing did not cause the audience’s eyes to tear up.
The parody of Vernon running a Rotary meeting continued on with Michael (a.k.a. Vendren) asking how our club’s Nigeria project was going. Cindy got up and pointed out that it was a Nicaragua project. Craig Lively announced that the club's team of attorneys was able to legally change seven names (that Vernon had a particular problem pronouncing) to “Smith” or “Jones”.
Not to be outdone however, Vernon took the opportunity for a rebuttal speech making fun of several board members along the way. All in all, it was a great event with lots of laughter and camaraderie. Kudos to Bobbie, Lynn, Shawn, Tom, Cindy, Michael, John, Craig, Jacque, and all the other members of the “Roast Vendren Committee”.
