Alan was a member of the Beaumont Rotary Club for 15 years. He served on the Board of Directors and is a Paul Harris Fellow. He has practiced general dentistry in Beaumont for 32 years.
Alan served eight years on the Beaumont City Council. He served twice as Mayor Pro Tem. His passion during his tenure on the Council was improving the health of the community.
Alan led the City of Beaumont to first place honors in the National League of Cities Let’s Move! Cities, Towns and Counties initiative. Beaumont was thefirst city toachieve all five gold medals.
Alan received the Legacy Award at the 2014 National League of Cities annual meeting. This award is given to an elected official in recognition of their tireless dedication and leadership to leave a lasting legacy for the children of their city and state.
Last May, Alan received the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition Community Leadership Award. The award is presented to individuals or organizations who improve the lives of others within their community by providing or enhancing opportunities to engage in sports, physical activities, fitness or nutrition-related programs.
Alan is the founder of the Beaumont Healthy Living Foundation, known as, “Healthy Southeast Texas”, the mission of which is to empower families to lead happier and healthier lives by providing the resources and activities to make healthy choices.
As the speaker on January 20, he will discuss the childhood obesity epidemic in America and what is being done to address the problem in our community.
The T. Kelsey Lamb Award for Business Ethics is presented annually to a Beaumont Rotarian who consistently exhibits the highest ethical standards represented by the Rotary Four-Way Test in his or her chosen vocation.
In 2015, this prestigious honor was presented to three recipients who have made significant contributions to the Beaumont community in many areas, most recently the BISD Board of Managers: Dr. James "Jimmy" Simmons, Robert Turner and Joseph "Joe" Domino.
Our Club will award the coveted honor at the February 24th meeting, according to this year's chairman, Joe Domino.
The deadline for nomination is Wednesday, February 3rd.
International Women's Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The first acknowledgement of this day of recognition is recorded as 1908 in New York City. Since that time, International Women's Day has grown into a worldwide effort to bring focus to women's issues.
Our club members, Teresa Simpson and Cindy Cherry, along with Beaumont Rotaract member Rebekah Maxwell, are spearheading plans to celebrate International Women’s Day along with Rotarians and others around the world. They will recognize the outstanding contributions women have made in Rotary on both the local level and the international scene since 1989, the year that women were welcomed to membership.

The Rotary Club of Beaumont is proud to announce the celebration of International Women's Day at the club meeting on Wednesday, March 2. Our speaker will be the esteemed Dr. Anne L. Matthews who served as the first woman Vice President of Rotary International. Anne was also the first woman to serve on both the Rotary Foundation Trustees and the Rotary International Board of Directors. She is highly recognized for her work in educational consulting and her contributions to Rotary International. She has spoken in all 50 states and 30 foreign countries on educational issues and/or on The Rotary Foundation and the work of Rotarians. Having traveled extensively on Rotary service projects, she will have some compelling and fascinating stories to share.

We will be inviting Rotarians from the District to join us and we anticipate a large audience of men and women celebrating International Women's Day and Women in Rotary.
Rotary International President-Elect John Germ unveiled the 2016-17 presidential theme, Rotary Serving Humanity, to incoming district governors on 18 January at the International Assembly in San Diego, California, USA.
“I believe everyone recognizes the opportunity to serve Rotary for what it truly is: not a small opportunity, but a great one; an opportunity of a lifetime to change the world for the better, forever through Rotary’s service to humanity,” said Rotary President-elect John Germ.
The program today was presented by Tim Sudela and Michael Perez about the weekend event, Camp RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards).
Rotary members Tim and Michael were not alone in this effort. They were part of a team of awesome Rotarians which included Cindy Cherry, Jim Baxter, Sharae Reed, Craig Escamilla, Bridget Johnson, Cynthia Wolf, Karen Newton, Mellie Bevilacqua, Michele Cobb, Pat Anderson, and a host of other Rotarians who were a part of this great program.
Rotary Club of Beaumont sponsored 16 of the 294 students. A large delegation, including the students sponsored by the Spindletop Club, departed from West Brook High School on Friday afternoon and returned on Sunday after the amazing weekend. Transportation was graciously provided by the Beaumont Independent School District and the Board of Managers.
Tim introduced student participant, Lizzie Baldo, a student at Monsignor Kelly Catholic High School.
Lizzie's description of her experiences at Camp RYLA were along the similar lines as those students who have related their experiences with Camp RYLA in past years. She described it as "an amazing experience" that created "memories that will last a lifetime." She "met many wonderful people" and the "speakers were great." She said she "didn't want it to end" and she "hopes to be a Rotarian one day." Her enthusiasm was contagious as she said, "the ropes course activities and lessons, the Ethics Course (facilitated by Rotarian Craig Escamilla), and unlimited ice cream were awesome!"
Lizzie was chosen to return to Camp RYLA as a counselor next year. She was articulate and enthusiastic about her experience at RYLA. Listening to Lizzie renewed one's faith in the future!
