Sidney Valentine
President, Lamar Institute of Technology
The Rotary Club of Beaumont welcomed Dr. Sidney Valentine, President of Lamar Institute of Technology (LIT), as the featured speaker for the meeting. Dr. Valentine provided an overview of LIT’s continued growth, accomplishments, and plans for the future. He shared that the college served approximately 7,964 students in 2026 and was approaching 7,838 students for the current fall term. His presentation highlighted the important role LIT plays in providing accessible education and workforce training opportunities throughout Southeast Texas.
Dr. Valentine discussed several initiatives designed to expand LIT’s programs and reach. One of the most notable projects is the planned move into a new 25,000-square-foot facility along Highway 96, which will provide additional space for programs such as utility line work and auto body technology. He also highlighted LIT’s partnership with DuGood Credit Union, which will provide zero-interest loans to graduating students. These initiatives demonstrate the college’s efforts to respond to workforce needs while creating additional opportunities for students to enter high-demand careers.
The presentation also highlighted several recent accomplishments and recognitions for LIT. The college reported a 100% NCLEX pass rate for its nursing students and has received recognition for innovation in process technology. LIT was also named among the most promising places to work in two-year colleges. Dr. Valentine emphasized the institution’s focus on workforce development, noting that approximately 85% of graduates remain in Texas to live and work. The college’s open enrollment model and emphasis on hands-on education allow it to serve students with a wide range of educational and career goals.
The meeting concluded with information about several upcoming LIT and Rotary opportunities, including Swing for Scholarships, the ExxonMobil LIT Foundation Golf Tournament, Trunk or Treat, and the annual Christmas Tree Lighting on December 1. Rotarians were also encouraged to support the upcoming Wine Down with Rotary event on October 22 by signing up to volunteer and donating raffle items, wine, and lottery tickets. Overall, the program provided Rotarians with an informative look at LIT’s growth, workforce-development mission, and continued commitment to serving students and the Southeast Texas community.
