With origins dating back to 1908 when crews dug a 9-foot deep canal in the Neches River to Beaumont, the Port of Beaumont has been integral to the area's growth, commerce, and industry. Currently the 4th busiest Port in the United States, Rotarians and friends will learn from Chris Fisher, Director and CEO, about the plans to deepen and widen the waterway and other projects currently on the horizon.

We Need YOU!
It might have been the only time in "Show Your Colors!" history that a delivery was cancelled, but due to the heavy need for volunteers to address the storm damage, we sacrificed a flag delivery on September 11. Let's make history again with a delivery never made before! On Monday, October 9, we will honor our great country with a show of colors on Columbus Day!
Therefore, we need your volunteer commitment with the "Show Your Colors" Flag Project on Monday, October 9. We need both volunteers and trucks! Please let Pat Anderson or Gary Moncla hear from you right away if you can help.

Welcome to the Newest Rotarians in the World!
The newest Rotarians in the world, Shedrick Evans (left), andJennifer Burch, are welcomed to the Rotary Club of Beaumont. Shedrick is a returning member and is happy to be back, while Jennifer has patiently waited to join since before Harvey caused a slight delay. Both are joined by club President, Tim Sudela, Gigi Sotolongo Mazzola (Jennifer's sponsor), and club President-Elect, Lynn P. Castle.

If you were at the September 20 meeting, you heard Rotary District 5910 Assistant Governor Becky Mason describe an effort to address a great need for the children in Vidor who lost their school shoes in the recent floods. It only took that one request for our newest member, Jennifer Burch, CEO of Best Hospice, to respond - and it was the first meeting for her to attend as a new member! Wow! Jennifer and her associates at Best Hospice immediately stepped forward to help with shoes. They purchased and delivered 62 pairs to students in Vidor the very next day! Kudos to Jennifer Burch, a real Rotarian in Action!
Watch for more information about how we can spread this effort on a larger scale in Beaumont as well!

Are your Dues Paid?
Dues were due on July 1, and there are a significant number of members still owing dues fur July - December 2017. The storm and recovery has delayed notifying you individually but we will be sending second notices soon. If you have not yet paid the July - December 2017 invoice for dues, PLEASE do so now as it ispast due.
If you receive the 2nd notice, it means we are not showing your invoice paid on either the Rotary office's book or the CPA's records. Please check your bank records, your credit card receipts or with your accounts payable office to see if a payment has been sent. Phone the office (842-1913) if you think there has been an error.
Remember,you don't even have to leave your desk to make a payment. Simply access your personal account through the link on the bottom of the invoice you receive, or use the homepage link, in the right hand column, that looks like this:

South Pacific is a Rodgers & Hammerstein romantic musical set during World War II. This is a classic play with a timeless score and it’s about time that we get to see our Community Players perform it.
A fitting tribute to the Greatest Generation, a play of two love stories, a play full of bravery and sacrifice – much of what we are seeing in our own communities.
We were entertained by Alisa Bell who plays Nellie Forbush, a young US Navy nurse. She was accompanied by Jay Vinecour.
Alisa performed two songs (A Wonderful Guy and Honey Bun) from the play and if this is an example of the quality of the play, then we are in for a memorable experience. Alisa’s performance was absolutely beautiful. Our very own Allen Lea who is a Seabee in the play was providing some entertaining interludes from the back of the room.
Paula was pleased to announce that there was no damage to the Betty Greenberg Center but that they lost about a week and a half of rehearsals due to the floods of Hurricane Harvey. Opening night was delayed a bit.
Paula is inviting all of us Rotarians to come to the show. This may be just what is needed to afford some respite from the recent floods. Come travel to the South Pacific for a trip that does not require a passport – just a ticket. Get yours now – this is destined to have sold out performances.
