Board Member Kathleen Jackson will discuss the role of the Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) and the need to develop a wide range of solutions, promising technologies and collaborative partnerships to meet our current and future water needs. These ongoing efforts help ensure Texas maintains a healthy and vibrant economy. TWDB is actively engaged in a new level of public and community outreach across the state to address the common goal we all share, which is to develop water for Texas. Director Jackson will highlight policies and procedures that have changed at the agency since the passage of House Bill 4 and will provide an update on implementing the State Water Implementation Fund for Texas (SWIFT).
It’s Rotary Homecoming Day! No, not on a hot afternoon after the annual Rotary Homecoming football game.
Join us for lunch at the MCM Elegante' on September 3, 2014 as we welcome home our own Beaumont Rotary alumna, Kathleen Jackson. What better way to welcome Kathleen home than to have every member of our club present to greet Kathleen personally? Call a Rotarian and tell them about it, inviting them to come with you. This will be a fun event! Come and see what your club is doing and rediscover the “goodwill and better friendships” of your Beaumont Rotary club. See you there!
We need you! And our 465+ subscribers need you too! Read these notes that came from two of our subscribers:

The CEO and President of First Financial Bank, Scott Dueser, spoke this past Wednesday about the problem of Elder Abuse. According to Mr. Dueser, every year billions of dollars are stolen from senior citizens using scams and in some cases, outright theft. These scams and thefts occur at a time when most of these individuals have retired and are relying solely on their savings they spent a lifetime accumulating. Once the senior’s nest egg is gone, they may no longer be able to afford food, housing and medical bills, at a time when they are no longer able to work.
Unfortunately, a huge portion of the problem can be the senior’s own children and relatives. Typically, relatives and outside parties prey on the senior’s sense of loneliness and isolation. Mr. Dueser described many scams used to take money from seniors such as requesting money for fraudulent charities on one end of the spectrum, to having individuals call seniors pretending to be their grandson and alleging that the grandson needs money to get out of a Mexican jail on the other end.
Mr. Dueser talked about the elder abuse training First Financial Bank gives all their loan officers and tellers. They even give out awards when a bank employee is able to prevent this type of fraud. Since the elder abuse program has been in effect, bank employees have been able to stop approximately $100,000,000 of potential fraud.
