Flag Project for Patriot Day
September 11 is a date no American can forget! We will pay tribute to all the nation's patriots with a "Show Your Colors" display across the city.
Please volunteer now to help with this project! Before you head to your place of worship on Sunday, September 11, join with other Rotarians and friends to make sure the flags are flying for our nearly 500 subscribers.

Help for Louisiana Neighbors
After the recent devastating floods in Louisiana, we have been considering how we can help. The Board of Directors is requesting that the Foundation send money to the Rotary District in the Baton Rouge area.
Moreover, members are asked to contribute what you can to the cause. Donations from club members are up to $605!
Again on September 7, we will pass a box so you can drop in cash or checks to help our neighbors in need. Please make any checks to the Beaumont Rotary Foundation and we will send one check for all funds collected. Final collection will take place on September 14 so we can send this much needed donation soon.

COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT ANNOUNCED!
Karyn Hawkins, Chair, has announced the next community service project, and this one is going to be another fun time! On Monday morning, September 19, Rotarians and volunteers are going to the museum!
That's right! The Beaumont Children's Museum is calling for our best volunteers to help build an area they call a "Maker Space" where children and adults can explore how things are made, how they work, and how they are built. It's a creative space for learning, exploring, and experimenting together. The area needs walls to define the work space and to close it off from the rest of the museum. Even if you can't build structures, you can paint! Come out and share in the fun.
The project needs to be done when the museum is closed to visitors. That means Monday morning is the best time to get this job done! Mark your calendar now for Monday, September 19 from 8:00 a.m. until Noon.

Wine Down With Rotary in Second Year!
The second annual "Wine Down With Rotary" fundraiser will be on Thursday, October 6. There will NOT be a Rotary meeting on October 5 so this event will substitute for the meeting of the week.
Get your tickets to attend and some to sell to friends and co-workers at the meeting this week or phone the Rotary Office. It will be another great/not-to-be-missed event!
This year, Wine Down With Rotary will be a celebration of the Centennial of The Rotary Foundation. We will recognize the good works of Rotary through the 100 years of the Foundation.

WHAT'S AHEAD!
On the brink of the new season, we are fortunate to have the opportunity to hear directly from Maestro Chelsea Tipton, music director of the Symphony of Southeast Texas, about the excitement in store for the 2016-17 concert season, "SOST Fantastique!"
Robert J. Robertson is known as an historian on many topics but none is as close to his heart as researching and writing about the civil rights movement in Texas and particularly in the southeast Texas area. He is an expert on some of those people who made significant change including, and particularly on Judge Lamar Cecil who was the key player in the desegregation of Lamar Tech in 1964. You need to be present on September 21 to hear this story.

What fun! The stories and tales about the Rotary Goes Home events prove that fellowship opportunities are as important as the many other times Rotarians gather for meetings or work together. Each gathering was different from any other, but each was as much fun as any other as well.
