It is most appropriate that the speaker this week will be Dr. Ken Evans, Rotarian and President of Lamar University. This week will be the presentation of the coveted T. Kelsey Lamb, Sr. Award for Business Ethics. It did not take a very long search to select an excellent speaker on the topic of business ethics.
After being involved in business education for more than 40 years, Dr. Evans is interested in the philosophical, academic and practical implications of ethics in business. Dr. Evans will present ten ethical “commandments” that create a framework from which he addresses his view of ethical conduct.
As host club, we hope to have good representation. Please register to attend some or all of the Conference.
General schedule:
Friday, May 1 - Pre-Conference activities and tours will start at 1:00 p.m. Sign up for the "Shoot Down Polio!" Clay Shoot with proceeds to benefit the End Polio effort, or tours of local museums and attractions. We flip the switch for the official conference opening at the Beaumont Rotary Centennial Playground; then at dinner in the adjacent Beaumont Event Centre the spotlight will shine on district clubs for the Governor's Spotlight Awards.
Saturday, May 2 - The day will be full of presentations and collaborations about the good work being done across the District. There will be time to exchange ideas and share new plans. In the evening, the spotlight will focus on the District leadership at the traditional Governor's Dinner. We have some "top brass" showing up for the "top brass!" (Click on the attachment below for a sneak preview.) You don't want to miss this!
Sunday, May 3 - The spotlight will turn this morning to light up the great work being done by Rotarians collectively through the Rotary Foundation. You will be moved, motivated, and inspired. Plan to be here until around 11:00 a.m. when the lights will go dim on the 2015 Conference, but participants take the glow back to their respective clubs to continue to "Light Up Rotary!" across District 5910.

If any business would like to sponsor an event, please let Rotaract know! They are looking for food sponsors for both the Sunday Kick-off and for the Service Project Saturday. If you have any questions or can help sponsor an event, please contact Rebekah Maxwell at: rebekah.d.maxwell@gmail.com.
The local Interact Clubs - West Brook, Kelly, Vidor and Orangefield - are joining together to do a project for children. They plan to put together some "candy tubes" and need paper tubes and individually wrapped hard or chewy candies (not chocolate).
Please save paper tubes from paper towels, toilet paper or gift wrapping paper and bring to a Rotary meeting before March 18. Your candy donation will help too and will be gratefully accepted.
In conjunction with the event, a pre-conference activity will be a "Shoot Down Polio" Clay Shoot. Come join the fun and know that your "shooting" will benefit Polio eradicating efforts.
If you cannot attend the District Conference, you can still participate in the "Shoot Down Polio!" Clay Shoot. Registration in the shoot is $50 with proceeds for Polio (and will generate a 2-1 match by the Gates Foundation. Give the Rotary Office a call to sign up.
The weekly lunch meeting quickly turned into a great day of completing service projects!
Our primary project was the assembly of 200 layette bags for shipment to Nicaragua. Led by Bel Lamb and Harland Merriam, the project was well-organized and Rotarians easily tackled the task of putting every item necessary into the bag. Each bag completed was carried to the "finishing station" where the last item was added and each bag zipped with love before it began it's journey, first to the Munro's truck and then onto Nicaragua. Thank you Chad Blanchard for the many days of storage and the vehicles to tote and ship, and to the entire committee for the hours of work in ordering, pre-packaging, and preparing the items. There will be 200 very happy mothers and infants in Nicaraguabenefiting from your hard work.
While a large group of Rotarians focused on the Layette project, a large number of others broke into smaller groups and continued spreading good works by helping 3 local non-profits with tasks for projects they have underway.
Congratulations on completing:
200 items needed by Habitat for Humanity at an event
250 outreach literature bags for Gift of Life that go to mammogram sites, prostate screenings and high school educational outreach programs
600 packets of information that are sent to cancer survivors in the area.
Sponsor ads appear on the website continuously and are included in the sidebar of the RotaryGrams each week. One will be spotlighted weekly to express our appreciation.
