With concern for our members' health during the COVID19 pandemic and to help mitigate the spread of the disease in our community, the Board of Directors has decided to cancel club meetings on March 18 and March 25.  The Board will assess the situation at the end of the month and determine when the weekly meetings will resume.
 
Videos of other clubs' meetings and other Rotary information will be posted to the homepage of the website so you can create your own individualized meeting.
 
Please watch for updates through emails and social media.  Stay well and please self-report any illness so we might be of service to you.

The meeting on March 18 has been cancelled.
 
The Board of Directors made the difficult decision to cancel meetings on March 18 and March 25th to reduce the possibility of exposure of our members and guests to COVID-19 and mitigate the spread of the disease in Beaumont.  The Board will reassess the situation at the end of March and will make a decision regarding future meetings.

The date of the Vocational Excellence Awards will be be changed but we will still have our annual recognition of individuals who exemplify a "service above self" attitude in their vocation and daily work.  You may have even taken notice of an individual who should be recognized for the way he/she has responded or served others during the immediate health crisis we are watching unfold in our own community. 
 
 
Though the date for the presentation will be changed, we are adhering to the same deadline of March 18 to submit nominations for those who should be honored.
 
Please submit your nomination by email or fax no later than Wednesday, March 18.  We will let you know the new date for this presentation as soon as it is decided.

"Celebrating World Rotaract Week"

Rebekah Maxwell, Director of Scholarships at Lamar University, enthusiastically introduced the officers of the Lamar Rotaract Club.  Casey Smith is the President and Justice Pevato is the Secretary.  The week of March 13 is celebrated as World Rotaract Week and our club is so proud to be the sponsor of this exceptional group of students.  The club has an average of thirty students and they are all active in service to our community.
 
What is Rotaract?
  • It is a service club for young men and women who are at least 18 years old and are dedicated to community and international service.
  • Worldwide membership totals over 184,000 in more than 8,000 clubs.
  • Rotaract Clubs are self-governing and self-supporting.  They can be either university or community based.
  • Individual Rotary Clubs sponsor Rotaract Clubs and offer guidance and support.  This makes the Rotaract Clubs true “partners in service” and key members of the family of Rotary.
 
The Rotaract Club of LU is sponsored by our club, it has eight consecutive years as recipient of the Service Organization of the Year award at the Annual Leadership Awards, it may be the only LU Student Organization with multiple City Proclamations, and the members have participated in international projects in Belize, Nicaragua and End Polio Now.
 
Casey and Justice gave us a summary of their club’s current service projects.  The most ambitious project is their participation in RYLA.  They assist in so many ways and offer their experience at the Leadership Conference.  They are an inspiration to the RYLA participants and are a valuable resource to the overall weekend activities.
 
Other projects include:
  • Giving Valentine’s Day Goodie Bags for Girls’ Haven and Boys’ Haven
  • Raising money for End Polio Now
  • Participating in the Clothing Drive for Imelda victims
  • Assisting in our Club’s annual Wine Down with Rotary Event
  • Participating in Rotary has a Heart Service Day
  • Providing Cards for Rotarian Veterans
  • Donating a Gift Basket for First Responders
They also have shown an interest in Rotary beyond their own club.  They are planning to send seven students to the 2020 District Conference in Galveston this June.  They are requesting co-sponsorship through Lamar to help cover the half of the expenses of the students.  Contact Rebekah Maxwell for more information.
 
These students are the future of Rotary both locally and internationally.  We are so proud to sponsor this Lamar Rotaract Club and we look forward to watching them grow in service and leadership.  Anywhere they go they will tell the story of how the Beaumont Rotary Club supported them and applauded them.  This is perhaps our club’s most important responsibility – mentoring young adults so they can be of service to the world.
