DUES INVOICING AND THE BILLING CYCLE
Rotary operates financially at the club, district, and international levels and dues support the work done at each level. Dues are billed to the individual at the club level, andthe club pays District and International dues on behalf of every member who is on the membership roster on January 1 and July 1.
In order for the club to pay dues to Rotary International and District 5910 on July 1, each member must be up to date on his/her dues to the Club no later than July 1 and January 1.
In order to make it as convenient as possible for you to submit a timely payment, the Board of Directors has requested that the invoices be sent to members 30-45 days in advance so that each member has adequate time to budget for the expense, process payment, and assure that the invoice is paid by July 1.
You should have received your invoice electronically on May 16. If you have requested to have a printed copy mailed to you, it should be received within the week. Please phone the office or email admin@beaumontrotaryclub.org to request a different method of billing or payment.
If you wish, you can submit your credit card information to be kept on file so that payments are processed for you in advance of the deadline.

President Ted Moor and President Elect Tim Sudela welcome two new members to the Club on June 21.
Shannon Harris, Development Director at KVLU Public Radio, is pictured to the right of Ted. Shannon was a member of the Port Arthur Rotary Club during her tenure as Director of the Museum of the Gulf Coast. Shannon led the Port Arthur club's dictionary project for seven years to support RI's Area of Focus on Literacy. She was sponsored by Regina Lindsey.
Alice Teeler, Executive Director of Girls Haven, is pictured standing next to her sponsor, Sheree Pierce. Alice brings a passion for service to the club. She and her husband make frequent trips to serve the needy and the homeless in Roaton, Honduras.

"The American Dream is Alive at LIT"

Our speaker today was Dr. Lonnie Howard, President of Lamar Institute of Technology. Dr. Howard was introduced by Rotarian Joanne Brown, Director of Development at LIT.
Dr. Howard presented his vision for Lamar Institute of Technology through his presentation entitled "The American Dream is Alive at LIT."
Using a PowerPoint presentation, Dr. Howard began his presentation stating that his life is "driven by the American Dream: the belief that if you work hard, have integrity, and obtain some relevant education, you will have a better opportunity to succeed."
Dr. Howard shared that he was born in a 4-room shack, raised by parents that were not educated, and that his mother worked as a maid. He remembers eating a 1/2-can of sweet peas before school and the other half at the end of the day (not the Del Monte or Libby's brands, but the waxy kind of peas that one would still taste two days later!)
Dr. Howard said that he obtained his first Associates Degree at the age of 36. He shared that his adopted son, who was sold for crack when he was only weeks-old, is presently enrolled in a Ph.D. program. (What an awesome testimony!)
Dr. Howard stated that although enrollment is down, our region has several additional challenges that the Lamar Institute of Technology, with 2-year degree programs and technical training can successfully address:
-an academically unprepared population; and -a region with over $34 billion dollars worth of planned industrial expansion scheduled, yet with no able-bodied workforce.
Dr. Howard went on to say that LIT has earned the # 1 spot in getting its graduates into the workplace in the state of Texas, and ranks #3 in the United States. He stated that "our students are employment-ready, and have the potential to earn up to $ 80,000 per year with an Associates Degree (AAS).
Dr. Howard has the hope that (possibly) President Trump would one day visit LIT, and stated that WE have to carry the message that there are many opportunities available for individuals who pursue a 2-year degree. This will help to expand our middle-class.
Dr. Howard concluded by sharing the "LIT Guarantee: if any employer is not satisfied with the knowledge and preparation of the LIT graduate for the position that they are hired for, the employer may send the new employee back for 12 hours of additional training from the Lamar Institute of Technology."
