You bought an antique dresser years ago, used it and kept it in pristine condition ALL these years so you can pass it down to one of the children to also use and enjoy. But - you guessed it! - none of those you hold so dear want the dresser you thought would stay in the family forever! Why don't my kids want my stuff? Maybe we will understand that age-old question after hearing from this week's speaker, the very popular Harry Rinker, appraiser, columnist, television program host, among other talents.
Harry L. Rinker is the owner of Harry L. Rinker LLC, dba as Rinker Consulting, a firm specializing in providing appraisal, consulting, editorial, educational, media, personal appearance, research, and writing services in the antiques and collectibles field.
“Rinker on Collectibles,” Rinker’s weekly syndicated column which celebrated its 25th anniversary in December 2011, appears in trade papers and daily periodicals from coast to coast and on antiques and collectibles internet websites. Rinker’s biweekly blog is posted on rubylane.com. His research articles and special feature columns have appeared in Antique Week,Collectors News, The Magazine Antiques, Maine Antique Digest, and numerous other periodicals and newspapers.
Rinker hosts Whatcha Got?, a nationally-syndicated antiques and collectibles radio call-in show, airing Sunday mornings between 8:00 AM and 10:00 AM Eastern Time. The show streams live on the Internet at www.gcnlive.com.

DUES INVOICING AND THE BILLING CYCLE
Rotary operates financially at the club, district, and international levels. Dues, along with contributions to the Beaumont Rotary Foundation, support the work done at each level. Dues are billed to the individual at the club level, andthe club pays District and International dues on behalf of every member who is on the membership roster on January 1 and July 1.
In order for the club to pay dues to Rotary International on July 1, each member must be up-to-date on his/her dues to the Club no later than June 30, in advance of the July 1 assessment by Rotary International.
If your January 1 dues remain unpaid on Monday, June 30, you will be terminated in bad-standing, meaning you are ineligible for membership in this or any other Rotary Club until your past due amount has been paid. If your January 1 dues were not paid on time, you will receive a second copy of the past-due invoice along with the July 1 invoice by mail within the week. To prevent termination, you are required to pay both invoices by June 25, the date of the next meeting of the Board of Directors.
In order to make it as convenient as possible for you to submit a timely payment, the Board of Directors has requested that the invoices be sent to members 30-45 days in advance so that each member has adequate time to budget for the expense, process payment, and assure that the invoice is paid by June 30, 2019. To adhere to that guideline, invoices were sent electronically at the end of May.
Electronic invoices were sent last week to all who are in good-standing. If you requested to have a printed invoice mailed to you, it should be received within the week. Please phone the office or email admin@beaumontrotaryclub.org to request a different method of billing or payment. Members with a credit card on file will receive a receipt by email when your card has been charged, or you will be contacted if your credit card information needs to be updated.
If you wish, you can submit your credit card information to be kept on file so that payments are processed for you in advance of the deadline each time.
If you wish, you can make arrangements with the Executive Director to have your charge card processed for your dues in installments until the account is paid in full.

Did You Earn Perfect Attendance?
It is always a very special day when we have the opportunity to recognize club members for contributions to the successes of the year. President Lynn will present awards and recognition on June 25. She will also recognize those who have earned Perfect Attendance for the year either through meeting attendance, an eClub makeup, serving on and attending committee meetings, or attending a makeup event.
Did you submit a makeup for every meeting you missed? Do you know you can see your attendance report on the ClubRunner app? If you have not downloaded the CR app, do it now and/or get assistance at the next Rotary meeting.
As we assure that no one is omitted in the recognition process, please help us by reflecting on the year (July 1, 2018-June 2019). If you deserve recognition, please call the Rotary office (409-842-1913) or send an email (admin@beaumontrotaryclub.org) saying you earned and deserve Perfect Attendance recognition.
Reminder: while we are proud of new members who have had Perfect attendance since joining, the award is only for members of the club with at least one full year of membership. That means you had to have joined BEFORE July 1 of 2018 to earn the award this year.

"The American Dream is Still Alive & Well at LIT"

Dr. Howard kicked off his presentation with a quote from James Adams, who said in 1931 that every US citizen, with hard work, determination and training, should have an opportunity for a better life. This is Dr. Howard's goal through his leadership at LIT. He said that over the last 24 months, LIT has become a powerhouse adding eleven new programs for disadvantaged students. In 2018, LIT was named the "Best Two Year College in Texas." LIT graduated the most students of color in history in May, 2019, and the 2019 students achieved a 92.8% placement rate.
LIT has 264 members of faculty and staff. Members of the faculty are only required to work 30 hours per week and are paid $45 per hour. His goal is to have the faculty paid above average wages. The faculty is also not only instructing college age students, but is also working with high school students from a number of the surrounding school districts where the students are working towards a high school diploma as well as a two year associate college degree. Many of the college age students are in the Lamar Link program where they can continue working on a four year degree at Lamar after completing their two year associate degree.
One of the key challenges LIT faces with today's students is the "Sense of Entitlement" many of these students have coming into the system. LIT is focused on working on the "Soft Skills" of these students to show them the importance of showing up at work on time and working hard at their job while they are there. A strong emphasis is also placed on learning the consequences of failing a drug test which keeps so many workers out of the work force today.
In 2016, LIT had an enrollment of 6,000 students which grew to 8,000 in 2018. Its goal is to reach 10,000 in the very near future. It plans to do this through strong programs, strong faculty and partnerships with local school districts and industry.
