MEMORIAL RESOLUTION PRESENTED

Since the earliest days of the Rotary Club of Beaumont, it has been a tradition to record the passing of a member into Club history with the writing of a Memorial Resolution to document his/her service and contributions.  The reading of the Resolution is an opportunity to reflect on the good deeds and significant impact the Rotarian had on the Club and the community.  The formally printed document is given to the family members, added to the Club's archives, and entered into the records of the Tyrrell Historical Library.

On April 23, the Rotary Club of Beaumont gathered to recognize and celebrate the life of former Rotarian Vernon Pierce, a dedicated member of our club since 2004. Fellow Rotarian Cynthia Wolf read a heartfelt Resolution in his honor.

Vernon's Rotary Classification was "Electrical Industry – Light & Power Service." Throughout his years of service, Vernon was a highly valued member, known for his commitment and unwavering support of Rotary’s mission. His contributions and presence left a lasting impact on our club and community.

Vernon passed away on April 14, 2024. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and serving alongside him.

PROGRAM REVIEW
April 23, 2025

Kenneth Williams
Beaumont City Manager
By Tim Sudela and Joanne Brown

Kenneth Williams, Beaumont City Manager was guest speaker at the April 23, 2025 meeting of the Rotary Club of Beaumont. Mr. Williams provided a ‘state of the city’ report featuring metrics from the 2024 City Manager’s Annual Report. Supported by several members of the City’s Executive Team and other staff members, Mr. Williams discussed his team’s 2024 accomplishments, as well as the progress that has been made on the 5-year plan initiated in August 2023. From a fiscal perspective, the ‘General’, ‘Solid Waste’, and ‘Water Utilities’ funds all have reserves that exceed policy guidelines.

Prior to the keynote presentation, Cynthia Wolf presented a Memorial Resolution for Vernon Pierce, who was a Past President of our club. Mr. Pierce served actively in several areas of our community including United Way of Beaumont and North Jefferson County, the Greater Beaumont Chamber of Commerce, Lamar Institute of Technology Foundation, Jefferson County Commissioner, Pct. 1, and the Symphony of Southeast Texas, just to mention a few.

Rotarians demonstrating service above self at the meeting were John Rollins who checked members and guests into the meeting, Deana Hughes who presented the Invocation, Kristie Young who led pledges to the U.S. and Texas flags, and John Beaver who introduced guests attending the meeting. Dan Jeans spoke from the podium to thank Club members for their dedication years ago to build a kitchen at The H.O.W. Center, a non-profit sober living home for men, and more recently on April 19th for building 20 bunk beds.

President Michael Perez concluded the meeting with reminders about Rotary After Hours at Carrabba’s on April 24th, Rotary Goes to Work April 30th, and the Club’s 2nd annual Executive of the Year Banquet on May 1st honoring Joseph Fertitta.
