Second notices for January - June 2014 dues are being sent this week. If you have not paid your invoice, please check your email for it. Members without an email on file will receive a copy in US Postal mail. Please submit payment as we have paid Rotary International dues on your behalf.
We have all seen and enjoyed much change and improvement in Beaumont in the last several years. What a great benefit to our businessess and the leisure activities in which we all take part. What is still ahead?
We are grateful the City Manager and fellow Rotarian, Kyle Hayes, will be with us on Wednesday to give an update on Beaumont's progress and what we can look forward to in this great city we call our home.
Ever wish YOU had the opportunity to ring the opening bell at the meeting?
For a donation of $25 to the Beaumont Rotary Foundation, you will be allowed to do just that. You will be called up to ring the bell to start the meeting.
When he rings the bell to conclude the meeting, President Chad Blanchard will match your donation with another $25 donation to the Beaumont Rotary Foundation!

Would you like to be the Bell Ringer at a meeting and support the Beaumont Rotary Foundation at the same time? Please volunteer by contacting President Chad Blanchard or the Rotary Office today.
Rotarians and friends will visit all Beaumont schools and deliver personalized "I Like Me!" books to every first grade student.
Whether the Rotarian reads the book aloud or has the children take turns reading, Rotarians have the pleasure of seeing the children's eyes widen and the smiles appear as they hear, see and read their own name in the story.
Be a part of the fun. Pick your favorite school and sign up yourself and your friends and co-workers. Spread the love of reading!
Many Rotarians have already signed up to participate, and we thank you. If you have not done so yet, please click on the link below to view the online sign up sheet and choose the school you would like to visit or sign up at the next meeting.

Ask any student who has lived in another country for an entire school year, or ask any family that has hosted an international student for a few months about their experience. Without exception, they will describe it as life changing.
Rotary’s ideals include “the advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace” – and how better to accomplish that than by sharing your home with a student from another country for just a few months?
Twelve students from around the world are eagerly awaiting news as to whether they will get to spend the next school year in East or Southeast Texas (our Rotary district). In order to give them a chance, our club must find three families who are willing to let a student be a part of their family for three to four months during that time.
Read the testimonials of current and recent exchange students who have stayed in our district by clicking this link: SitePage/youth-exchange-program. Families who have hosted a student report that their own children were deeply enriched by the experience as well.
Would you consider hosting a student for a portion of the next school year? Do you have any ideas of other families that might consider it? We will schedule an informational meeting for anyone who would like to find out about the process as soon as potential hosts are identified. Email Jacque (admin@beaumontrotaryclub.org) or Becky Mason (beckylmason@mac.com) if you would like more information or know of other families who might be interested.
The Layette assembly project was a huge success. Dozens of Beaumont Rotarians, Rotaractors, friends, and children came out to help make life a little better for 150 babies in the villages of Nicaragua. With a matching grant from the District, your donations to the Beaumont Rotary Foundation made it possible!
Thank you to Jim and Tom Broussard and the Centre staff for being so accommodating, and to Chad Blanchard and Munro's for ordering the items needed for the bags and providing transportation and storage.
Thanks to Marcia Crone for supplying delicious sandwich, fruit and dessert trays, and to John Weitzel for donating beverages.
T. Kelsey Lamb, Sr. Award for Business Ethics Presented
The coveted T. Kelsey Lamb, Sr. Award for Business Ethics is presented annually to a Rotarian who consistently exhibits the highest ethical standards represented by the Rotary Four Way Test in his/her profession. Described by many as "well-deserved," the 2014 Award was presented to Tim Sudela (center).
Pictured with Tim are (left to right) Past President, Recipient and speaker Floyd McSpadden, nominator John Paschall, Ethics Chairman Craig Escamilla, and President Chad Blanchard.
The meeting on Wednesday, February 26, 2014, was the perfect date and occasion to mark the close of the many Centennial year activities. It was exactly the same day (February 26) in 1914 when the Rotary Club of Beaumont must have celebrated the first completed year of Rotary service in the Beaumont area. What a year that must have been, and what a year we had!
We used the occasion as the ideal opportunity to hear a report on the Centennial year of achievements by Centennial President Becky Mason. She reported on the international project completed: a water well in Nicaragua. She helped us recognize the "Family of Rotary" and 3 families that boast 100 years of membership in the Club: Dollinger, Edwards, and Lamb.
Moreover, she expressed the club's appreciation to those who helped with the Beaumont Rotary Centennial Playground project, most especially Mason Construction and area individuals and businesses, the 175+ volunteers who give 2000+ hours of Service Above Self to create a wonderful gift for the city and area citizens. She reported the contributions totaled over $405,000! The Playground value = priceless!

This week the spotlight is shining on Rotarian Judy Kelfstrom.
Most know Judy was Regional Resources Development Director with the Salvation Army. She retired from that position in September 2013 and earned certification as a Lay Minister for the United Methodist Church. On July 1, 2013, she was assigned to a small First United Methodist Church in Sour Lake,
This fairly new program, and brand new to the Beaumont District, gave her the honor of being it’s first “Certified Lay Minister” assigned to a church (in the Beaumont District). The program is growing and the Beaumont District now has two Certified Lay Ministers.
The speaker for the special T. Kelsey Lamb, Sr. Award for Business Ethics presentation day was Floyd McSpadden.
The only two-time recipient of the T. Kelsey Lamb Award, Floyd McSpadden has earned the respect of everyone who knows him.
As a member of the State Bar of Texas and a Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation, he is a well-respected attorney and is board-certified
in Estate Planning and Probate Law.
Floyd asked the question, "Who am I?" as he utilized the backdrop of the beloved book and musical Les Miserables to convey the essence of the T. Kelsey Lamb, Sr. Award for Business Ethics and the Rotary Four Way Test.
"Do I strrrrretch the truth, or do I speak the truth, though painful, at times?"
"Do I foster an attitude that says that I'm looking to gain instead of what I can contribute? Is it good for all?"
We can look at every situation and see opportunities to bring others together instead of looking for what is wrong in any given situation.
Floyd stated that when it comes to ethics, "where the rubber meets the road" is evidenced in the things that we think, say, and do.
