Janeal M. White, PhD, CFLE Internship Coordinator & Assistant Professor Family Studies Program
Lamar University
Dr. Janeal White is a qualitative researcher and has conducted award-winning research on homelessness, resilience, and dignity for almost 20 years. As the Southeast Texas Regional Planning Commission consultant in charge of the regional response to homelessness, Janeal serves as the Coordinator for the Southeast Texas Coalition for the Homeless which is a network of more than 180 community partners who work to strengthen connections between service providers to increase services in our community.
As an educator, Dr. White equips students to be professionals who strengthen families through education, service, and advocacy. She is a Certified Family Life Educator, has a PhD in Social Work from LSU, and is the Internship Coordinator and Assistant Professor for the Lamar University Family Studies program.
Dr. White is an active member of the National Council on Family Relations (NCFR) where she currently chairs the Mentoring Academy and is an incoming national board member. Janeal was recently honored by the Better Business Bureau in Southeast Texas as a Woman of Integrity and will receive the Advancing Family Science Emerging Mentor/Teacher Award from NCFR at the national conference later this year.
Janeal is originally from Port Arthur and currently resides in Beaumont with her husband, son, and three rescue furbabies including her precious purple pit bull, Lucky. As a qualitative researcher, Dr. White believes that every person has a story waiting to be heard and she believes that she is going to change the world one story at a time.
