The Rotary Club of Beaumont, TX, is a large and diverse fellowship of inspired business, professional, and civic leaders with significant community connections that foster the ideals of Service Above Self and high ethical standards.
"The Mission of the Lamar University Public Art Committee is to acquire a collection of art for the buildings, public areas and green spaces of the Lamar University campus to enrich the University’s cultural life, inspire critical dialogue, and illuminate the role of art in the lives of students, faculty, alumni and friends of Lamar University."
The Lamar Public Art Committee was formed in 2014 by Nancy Evans and Kim Steinhagen to purchase art for new buildings on the Lamar University campus. As of April 2019, the committee has added 35 works by 13 museum-quality artists to the campus. Ms. Steinhagen will give an overview of the art that has been purchased and how the committee selects art for Lamar.
Ms. Steinhagen is a Development Officer for the College of Fine Arts and Communications and the Dishman Art Museum at Lamar University. She serves with Keith Carter as Co-Chair of the Public Art Committee at Lamar. She has an extensive background in art, including working for a Dallas art gallery for four years and, with her husband Roy, is an avid collector of contemporary art. She has served on the Board of Trustees of the Art Museum of Southeast Texas since 1994 and is currently an Advisory Trustee for AMSET. She has been a member of the AMSET Acquisitions Committee since 1993. Kim attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in art history and a master’s degree in business.

Calling All Volunteers!
Calling all Rotarians who are ready to serve! Ubi Caritas, a local ministry, provides healthcare to the uninsured in the community. Located at 4450 Highland Avenue in the South Park neighborhood, they are preparing to re-open a clinic on the property. They are calling for assistance with preparing the parking lot and drives for the visitors to the facility. Rotarians are needed to paint curbs and parking bumpers. Are you called to service? With beautiful weather predicted for Friday afternoon, volunteers will enjoy the afternoon, giving back to the community in this way. No equipment or special skills are needed. Soap Box Derby Pit Crew Needed!
Want to enjoy a great morning enjoying the beautiful weather? We've got the perfect opportunity for you to do that while you provide a great service! The Rotary Club of Beaumont has traditionally helped the Spindletop Rotary Club by providing food and beverages to the members of their club as they hold the annual Soap Box Derby.
David Shoemaker, CHIEF of this year's Pit Crew, is asking you to come out and enjoy providing a real service to fellow Rotarians in the Spindletop Club on Saturday, May 4 and Sunday, May 5. There are enough people ready to work in the early morning hours to serve breakfast, but we still need a few more volunteers for the lunch shifts.
It was a really good day at Rotary as we welcomed two new Rotarians to the Club!

Amy Dansby has been attending meetings and taking part in so many Rotary activities in the last month that you might have thought she was already a member! She works as Director of Sales and Business Development for American Personnel & Temps which she loves. In her spare time, she enjoys following the Dallas Mavericks and spending time with her three adult children and 5 grandsons. Her real passion is traveling and scuba diving. She is a certified diver and has enjoyed the waters of Grand Cayman, Belize, St. Thomas, St. John, St. Maarten, Tortola BVI, Cancun, Playa Del Carmen, Cabo San Lucas, and some USA waters as well.
Afterbeginning her career in sales for a medical company, in 2004 Polly Grissom started her own company, Point of View Shutters/Blinds. She says her family is her passion and boating is her hobby, but simply "having fun" is critical to her. Her other hobbies include running and hiking. Polly is interested in serving the community and doing some international work as well. Give Polly a call because she has her Rotarian-at-Work shirt ready!

"Interact Members are People of Action"

Sheree Pierce chaired this year’s Youth Program and did a fantastic job. Interact acts as an introductory Rotary Club for students that are 12-18 years old. The three Interact clubs in Beaumont are at West Brook, Monsignor Kelly and Beaumont United High Schools.
The West Brook club's faculty advisors are Stacey Phillips and Tiffany Woodall, and the club president is Natalia Doiron (Uliana Trylowsky’s daughter). Over the past year, students from the club participated in the Interact summer leadership camp, Running Start at West Brook, volunteered at Some Other Place, worked on Love Lunch Snacks, worked the Color Run, attended a fall mixer that created bags that are given to the Rainbow Room organization, and collected school supplies for students in Honduras. Clearly West Brook has great leadership and students that are eager to give their time to help others.
The principal of Kelly High School is Rotarian Roger Bemis, and the Interact club is sponsored by Karyn Husbands. Making the presentation about the Kelly Interact Club was Mackenzie Campbell. The Club participated in Homecoming Week activities to advertise for their club, helped with pumpkin decorating at the John J. French House, met with Interact Rotarians at LCM, prepared Valentine Day cards for residents at Calder Woods, cooked for the Kelly ‘Culture Fest’, and raised funds to donate to sustainablesteward.org. Kelly’s students did a great job presenting their accomplishments over the past year.
Beaumont United is led by Cindy Cherry and the current President Gerald Jones gave their presentation. They started by showing an awesome video of all of their activities over the past year. A couple of their impressive accomplishments were giving donuts to their teachers and showing gratification to school security by feeding them chicken spaghetti. They also volunteered twice a month at the food bank, wrote cards to children at the hospital, worked with children with special needs. They stated that the objective was to "brighten the day for people because that’s part of being a Rotarian!” Isn’t that GREAT?
Finally, Rene Greenwald presented West Brook students Paola Celis and Ana Marquez each with an $8,000 scholarship for college. Paola is planning on attending the University of Texas and Ana will be attending either Dartmouth or Columbia. They were both described as "amazing and hard workers.”
