Ribbon Cutting of the N.E.S.T. at Martin Elementary was held on, December 9, 2021!
The N.E.S.T. at Martin Elementary, funded by the rotary club of Beaumont, is open and the children have begun to use it! This has expanded the learning opportunities for the children enormously. Past President Cindy Cherry and Project Chairman Kevin Reed participated in the cutting of the ribbon during the ceremony. The students actively participated in the ceremony including reciting their mantra. Past President Cindy Cherry spoke and was interviewed by a newspaper reporter as well as BISD on behalf of The Rotary Club Of Beaumont.

Salvation Army Kettle Bell Ringing!
Rotarians in the Rotary Club of Beaumont look forward to serving as "bell-ringers" and sharing the holiday spirit with others! The weather this year was mild and all the volunteers report enjoying the experience very much. As you see in the photos, many enjoyed bringing family members along with them and everyone shared in a really good time for a really good cause. And kudos to Jacques Gagne, Chair, who stayed the weekend to be of help to Rotary volunteers.

It's going to be a "Holly Jolly Holiday Party!" This fun party will be counted as the meeting for the week of December 15.
Come join in the fun for the traditional Club celebration, hear the announcement of the President-Nominee, enjoy some holiday tunes and sing along as part of the Rotary Chorus under the direction of Rotarian Dr. James Han. The aroma of a delicious buffet dinner will fill the Art Museum of Southeast Texas, and the cash bar will be well-stocked! What's a Rotary Holiday Party without gift-giving for those less fortunate? This year, the planning committee has selected to support the shelter residents of Family Services. Family Services of Southeast Texas provides a shelter dedicated to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. In 2021, Beaumont has had 7 domestic violence fatalities. To help spread joy this holiday season, we are asking you to bring an unwrapped gift for a resident of the Women and Children’s Shelter, mom or child, to the Holiday Party. The shelter provides a “mock” store where the residents get to “shop” for their children for free. After they have made their selection, each gift is wrapped with love, then delivered to their shelter apartment and placed under their Christmas tree or on the holiday table. The joy and pride these moms feel from being able to give their kids gifts during this difficult time in their lives is immeasurable.
Girls: bath stuff, perfume, makeup, mirrors, purses, sleep shirts, jewelry, small handheld games (under $20)
Moms: soft blankets, robes, slippers, cute nail care items, shower gels and lotions

On December 8, we were happy to welcome two new members who had just completed Orientation: Julie Strassburger and Carl Lambeth Jr.
Julie is in marketing and sales with Bug Me Not Pest Control. She was born in Beaumont and grew up in Lumberton. Julie is married with one child and nine fur- children. She is looking forward to serving our community. Julie's hobbies include painting large colorful pictures of cats, dogs, birds and crabs.

Carl Lambeth is the owner of Safemove SETX. He and his wife Jesica, with their three children live in Beaumont. “ Shorkey Vision: Trends, Challenges, and Successes "

Dr. Robin Pearson certainly doesn’t shy away from challenges. She and her husband moved to Southeast Texas during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Since 2020, Robin has served as the Executive Director of the Richard L. Shorkey Education and Rehabilitation Center in Beaumont.
A Special Education teacher with over 10 years of experience, Robin has worked in Austin, El Paso, Lubbock, and Redlands, California.
While in California, Robin was the Director of Education & Intake at a pediatric therapy clinic where she worked with an interdisciplinary team of therapists who specialized in early childhood screenings and therapies.
Robin demonstrated her leadership skills through the management of a multi-facility gymnastics program in Austin, which provided preschool and afternoon learning opportunities in addition to gymnastics.
At the Shorkey Center, Robin’s ruling philosophy is doing what’s best for the kids.
The Center’s inception began in 1944. Today, it offers a range of rehabilitation services including Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Aquatic Therapy, Speech Therapy, and Applied Behavior Analysis Therapy to children ages 3 months to 21 years. Additionally, the Center offers an all-inclusive daycare and summer camps.
While the Shorkey Center faces challenges, such as talent recruitment, Robin views these obstacles through a problem-solving lens.
Recent victories include doubling therapy staff to serve more children, installing a sidewalk around the playground, improving the driveway and parking area, and adding a sensory room that features a trampoline and rock wall.
With a love for the kids and the families the Shorkey Center serve, you may see an occasional handstand or cartwheel courtesy of Robin.
A nonprofit that is partnered with United Way, the Shorkey Center also is supported by community donations, grants, and fundraisers.
