DUES INVOICING AND THE BILLING CYCLE

Rotary operates financially at the club, district, and international levels and dues support the work done at each level.  Dues are billed to the individual at the club level, and the club pays District and International dues on behalf of every member who is on the membership roster on January 1 and July 1

In order for the club to pay dues to Rotary International and District 5910 on July 1, each member must be up to date on his/her dues to the Club no later than July 1 and January 1.

In order to make it as convenient as possible for you to submit a timely payment, the Board of Directors has requested that the invoices be sent to members 30-45 days in advance so that each member has adequate time to budget for the expense, process payment, and assure that the invoice is paid by July 1.

You should have received your invoice electronically on May 16.  If you have requested to have a printed copy mailed to you, it should be received within the week.  Please phone the office or email admin@beaumontrotaryclub.org to request a different method of billing or payment.

If you wish, you can submit your credit card information to be kept on file so that payments are processed for you in advance of the deadline.

Didn't receive your invoice, have questions or need to change your membership status?  Call 409-842-1913.  Thank you.

Did You Earn Perfect Attendance?
It is always a very special day when we have the opportunity to recognize club members for contributions to the successes of the year. President Ted will present awards and recognition on June 27.  He will also recognize those who have earned Perfect Attendance for the year either through meeting attendance, and eClub makeup, serving on and attending committee meetings, or attending a makeup event.

Did you submit a makeup for every meeting you missed?  Do you know you can see your attendance report on the ClubRunner app?   If you have not downloaded the CR app, do it now and/or get assistance at the next Rotary meeting.

As we assure that no one is omitted in the recognition process, please help us by reflecting on the year (July 2016-June 2017). If you deserve recognition, please call the Rotary office (409-842-1913) or send an email (admin@beaumontrotaryclub.org) saying you earned and deserve Perfect Attendance recognition.

(Reminder: you must have been a member of the club for one full year to be eligible for Perfect Attendance.)

PROGRAM REVIEW
June 7, 2017

"Beaumont: Texas
with a Little Something Extra"
Kyle Hayes
City Manager
City of Beaumont
by Bobbie Applegate

When the City of Beaumont makes decisions concerning the direction of its actions and goals, there are three questions that the Council and City Leadership ask:

  1. Do we have the right people in place?
  2. Do we know what we are trying to achieve?
  3. Can we get it done?

This philosophy of leadership has worked well in the city and has resulted in the city’s good financial condition and good staff of people who can get things done.

The city oversees 35 parks and inspects them on a weekly basis. In the last two years, nine properties have been sold from the city’s book including the Beaumont Hotel and a recently sold parcel in downtown.

The operating budget of the city is $250 million a year of which $120 million is for general fund purposes. Thirty-five percent of the revenues of the city come from sales tax, which is down 2.2% from the same period last year. Thirty percent comes from property tax and fifteen percent from industrial, commercial taxes. Of the general fund budget, 32% goes for police, 24% for fire and 16% for public works. The only expenses paid by the public at large are water and garbage pickup.

In the last several years a number of projects have been initiated, completed and/or are under construction:

  • Event Center
  • Washington Blvd project
  • 7th Street
  • Avenue A Phase 1 Complete, Phase 2 under construction
  • Concord road complete
  • Magnolia overlay under constructions
  • NW Parkway under construction (due to partial federal funding waiting for environmental study)
  • Fire Station 11 under construction
  • Fire Station 1 approved
  • New Public Health Building complete
  • Best Years Center under construction
  • Corporate Drive has been initiated
  • Riverfront Park is in the proposal phase and may begin within the next couple of months
