Beaumont Community Players
The Executive Director of Beaumont Community Players has been working professionally in the arts for over 40 years including directing productions across the country from the Alabama Shakespeare Festival in Montgomery to Opera Pacific in California. As an executive leader he has helmed such organizations as the Performance Network and the Jewish Ensemble Theatre in Michigan and Etico Productions in New Jersey. Working as a Union actor on both stage and screen Mr. Manfredi has performed in nearly 200 plays from William Shakespeare to David Mamet and such films and television shows as Real Steel, The Great and Powerful Oz, Strain 100, Law and Order, Unsolved Mysteries and is the voice of countless industrial films and commercials. As an educator John has taught at Oakland and Wayne State Universities and the University of Detroit and was educated at Kenyon College and the Goodman School of Drama in Chicago. The father of two grown sons, he came to Beaumont in 2017 after a national search and is BCP’s first Executive Director in its 95 year history.
Beaumont Community Players (BCP) has been in Beaumont, TX for almost 100 years, producing high quality plays and musicals ranging from Broadway spectaculars to intimate dramas. Beginning in 1925 as Beaumont’s "Little Theatre" this dedicated team of volunteers has grown from a small troupe of players to the amazing company producing more than 10 shows a year we see today. A true anchor organization for the Arts and Arts Education Beaumont Community Players is also the home of the Margaret Bolton School of Performing Arts and KIDmunity, an award winning summer program for youth. Boasting over 300 active dates a year BCP is 100% homegrown and creates every production from scratch using local talent and resources. Using the Arts to raise awareness is a time-honored tradition and BCP partners with over a dozen area nonprofits providing unique and specific services to enhance their events and amplify their missions. At BCP, diversity, equity and inclusion are at the core of who we are and align with our stated vision to be the ‘biggest tent in Texas’. Our commitment to these values is steadfast across all of our work as artists, managers, and educators. We know that a diverse company is a healthier, more productive member of our community and we resolve to be a leader in creating a more inclusive Texas.

Our program last week was given by Amanda Yarbrough, the Executive Director of the Beaumont Children’s Museum. She has been there for the last six and a half years, where she has worked with staff and board members to provide a place for children to interact with STEAM based opportunities, play and have fun.
The museum attracted over 62,000 visitors last year at the Beaumont Civic Center, primarily from the surrounding counties around Beaumont, but also attracted visitors from outside of the state and even the country. The purpose of the museum is to provide more meaningful family interactions, support the educational system by providing additional resources which focus on STEM education and align with TEKS. It provides additional experiences for learning for children who may not have the ability to travel. It also contributes to the local economy and increases tourism.
She provided numerous photographs of children getting hands on experiences building things, drawing, doing art projects, and even showed parents having fun working with the children on these projects.
The museum, which was founded in 2008, is funded through admission charges, fund raisers, grants, sponsorships and annual donations.
Another big draw is the Touch-a-Truck & STEAM Fair coming up on Saturday, October 21 from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the Beaumont Civic Center where children will be able to touch and sit in over 50 different types of vehicles and equipment. The children will be able to pull levers and turn steering wheels in these vehicles and imagine themselves operating the vehicle. Over 3,000 visitors attended this event in 2022.
The next fundraiser event is scheduled for February 17, 2024. The theme of the event is Treasure Island and she encouraged everyone to come for an evening of fun dressed as pirates and enjoying casino games.
Another event scheduled for next year on July 26-27 is the Indorama Multi-Generational Fishing tournament at Port Neches Park. This has been a surprisingly successful event sponsored by Indorama Ventures the last two years. In the first year it raised almost $470,000 and in 2023 it raised over $700,000 which has allowed for the museum to supply sixteen teacher grants of $50,000 in 2022 and $80,000 in 2023 grants. It has also provided 148 Classroom kits in 2022.
