The Rotary Club of Beaumont, TX, is a large and diverse fellowship of inspired business, professional, and civic leaders with significant community connections that foster the ideals of Service Above Self and high ethical standards.
Due to extensive renovations underway at the MCM Eleganté, the weekly meeting will be held at the Broussard's Centré, 1775 Calder Avenue.

LTC Gordon E. Vincent
842nd Transportation Battalion Commander
LTC Gordon E. Vincent graduated from Clemson University in 1998 with a B.S. in Forest Resource Management and is a Demonstrated Master Logistician. He is a Logistics officer and has served in a variety of tactical and operational assignments in both the active and reserve components. Notable assignments include: Battalion S-1, 602d Aviation Support Battalion; Division Cavalry Squadron Support Team Chief; Shop Officer, 603d Aviation Support Battalion and Immediate Ready Company in the 3rd Infantry Division (Mechanized). He served as a logistics staff officer on the United States Army Europe G-4 staff in Heidelberg, Germany. LTC Vincent was the Brigade S-4 for the 172nd Infantry Brigade in Grafenwoehr, Germany; Battalion Executive Officer for the 330th Transportation Battalion (Movement Control), 82nd Sustainment Brigade and 82nd Sustainment Brigade S-3.
Prior to his assignment in Beaumont, LTC Vincent served at the CENTCOM Branch Chief at U.S. Transportation Command, Scott AFB IL. LTC Vincent has deployed three times in support of Operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom and served in both Europe and Republic of Korea.
LTC Vincent’s military education and schools include the Ordnance Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, the Army Command and General Staff College, Joint and Combined Warfighting School.
LTC Vincent’s awards include the Bronze Star Medal (2OLC), the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (1OLC), the Army Commendation Medal (2OLC), the Army Achievement Medal and the Combat Action Badge.
The Lieutenant Colonel will be introduced by Col. (ret.) Randall L. Fluke.

As Mary Poole, Chair, announced at the meeting on October 30, the date for the Vocational Excellence Awards presentation needed to be changed in order for the meeting to be in a location which can accommodate the large number of guests who like to attend that special event with the nominees.

Meeting in a temporary location each week certainly has had its challenges, but along with the challenges has come a true blessing! Without having to be asked, Debbie Maxwell is volunteering weekly to oversee and manage the kitchen and buffet line at our meetings. She is skilled and experienced with the tasks as she served a large family for years and has frequently organized meals and large functions for her church family. Every Wednesday she insures that Rotarians and guests are served hot and delicious food quickly and efficiently. Be sure to express your appreciation to Debbie for her volunteer spirit and a job well done!

Superintendent of Schools
Beaumont Independent School District

Dr. Shannon Allen was raised in Beaumont, graduated from West Brook HS and received her masters and doctoral degrees from Lamar. She began her work with BISD as a substitute teacher and worked her way to becoming the new superintendent of BISD.
Her main initiative for the school district is titled EM2 which means Every Moment Matters. This idea is designed to impact the way that BISD employees approach their work with a positive attitude that drives exceptional behavior. This new mentality is applied to the 18,167 students, 2,440 employees, and across all 27 campuses.
Dr. Shannon’s focus for the 2019/2020 school year is:
Increase student attendance.
Increase reading skills so that students can read at their appropriate level.
Decrease the number of campuses that need improvement – there are currently 3.
Increase the district rating from a C to an A/B.
Increase the number of families that move to Beaumont because of the school district.
New resources that are currently being implemented include free Wi-Fi for some students provided by T-Mobile, Chromebooks for 9th graders, additional security enhancements, additional truancy officers, SMART Tag for students riding a bus, and SEL (Social Emotional Learning) Skills curriculum.
Finally, Dr. Allen asked Rotary members 2 amazing questions:
What do you want to see in your schools?
How can the community better support our District?
Dr. Allen gave a great presentation and the Rotary Club is grateful for her time and hard work. Those in attendance indicated that appreciation with a standing ovation.
