PROGRAM REVIEW
September 18, 2024

Amy Chase
Executive Director
Bolivar Point Lighthouse Foundation
By Joanne Brown and Tim Sudela

Amy Maxwell Chase, Executive Director of the Bolivar Point Lighthouse Foundation was the guest speaker at the September 18 meeting of the Rotary Club of Beaumont. A native of Beaumont and alumna of Monsignor Kelly High School, Mrs. Chase attended Texas A&M University where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Marketing. After a very successful business career, her lifelong relationship with the Bolivar Point Lighthouse guided Mrs. Chase back to Galveston Island to serve as Executive Director of the Bolivar Point Lighthouse Foundation.

Amy is leading the collaborative efforts to restore the 151-year-old lighthouse. The tallest historic lighthouse in Texas is listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. The iconic landmark was decommissioned in 1933 and since 1947, has been privately owned and maintained by descendants of E.V. Boyt and his sister Ila Boyt Maxwell. The Bolivar Point Lighthouse Foundation was established as a 501(c)(3) organization in 2015 to bring the beacon back to its glory years. Mrs. Chase is a member of The Rotary Club of Galveston, a member of The George Washington Chapter of The Daughters of the American Revolution, a Galveston Certified Tourism Ambassador and a 2022 Graduate of the Chamber of Commerce Leadership Galveston.

Two new members were introduced to the Club, Ellen Schulz and Melissa Cornwell. Daniel Jeans, Rotarian of the Day, and Executive Director of the H.O.W. Center shared information about the safe and structured living environment for individuals recovering from addiction. Kim Johns spoke about Rotary After Hours on September 26, Floyd McSpadden promoted Wine Down with Rotary on October 25, Cheryl Bilyeu provided the invocation, Shawn Javed led pledges to the American and Texas flags, President-elect Uliana Trylowsky introduced guests, and Past President Larry Beaulieu introduced the speaker. John Rollins and Lee Potter served as meeting greeters, Jacques Gagne and Jeff Beaver served at the Finance table, and Jennifer Gregory served as photographer.
