Attendees to this week’s Rotary Meeting were greeted at registration by Jeanette Fresne. President Michael Perez presided over the meeting and was joined at the head table by: Gigi Mazzola giving the Invocation, Jason Apodaca leading in the pledges to the U.S. flag and the Texas flag, Jacques Gagne introducing our guests, and Tim Sudela for introduction of our speaker.
Announcements included Van Greer giving a report on the last Board of Directors meeting. A thank-you was extended to Brad Brown and committee for a wonderful Christmas Party and for the collection of donated pillows for Sleep in Heavenly Peace.
The speaker was Bishop David Toups, who was installed in the Diocese of Beaumont in 2020. Bishop Toups was ordained a priest in 1997 and received his doctorate in Rome in 2004. He is also the author of several books, the latest titled “Back to the Table” which encourages families to get back to having a meal at the home table together at least 2-3 times a week. Using the Table concept for youth will establish relationships, build connections and offer mentorship, thereby decreasing crime and building better communities. Bishop Toups is particularly impressed with Southeast Texas for its community unity, bond of charity and ecumenical connections.
The next Rotary meeting will be Wednesday, January 15 at 12 noon.
