Katie Celli serves as the first female Executive Director of the Golden Triangle Business Round Table (GTBR) where she oversees the strategic direction and operations for the organization whose mission is to connect the Oil and Gas industrial community of Southeast Texas for the betterment of our region.
Celli also serves as the Director of Community Affairs for Industrial Safety Training Council (ISTC) where she oversees the Community Involvement, Marketing and Public Relations for the non-profit organization dedicated to delivering safety training, site specific job safety orientations and compliance programs for the Oil, Gas and Energy industry of Southeast Texas and beyond.
Prior to her work in the oil, gas and energy sector, she worked in Healthcare Communications for 13 years. Starting her career with Mary Poole at Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas and most recently serving as the Director of Marketing and Public Relations for The Medical Center of Southeast Texas.

Meal Packing Event to Benefit the Bishop Comboni High School and the Providence Vocational School in Uganda
Thank you for those that have already signed up for this event. It is not too late to join in on this event to benefit those in Uganda.
The Rotary Club of Beaumont will be joining forces with St. Anne Church, Kids Around the World, and the Richard Gagné Charitable Foundation as they are very happy to announce a “Meal-Packaging” Project scheduled for Saturday, September 17, 2022 to benefit the children of The Bishop Comboni High School and the Providence Vocational School in Uganda.
The benefit will be held at the St. Anne Catholic Church gym located at 2715 Calder Ave, Beaumont, TX 77702. Volunteers are needed to help pack the meals which will then be shipped to the school for orphans in Uganda.
VOLUNTEERS MUST BE 18 YEARS OR OLDER.

The Alzheimer’s Dementia Rotarian Action Group has 137 teams so far from all over the country, which is continuing to increase. This year’s goal is $250,000 so far this year they have raised $82,285 and this number is growing daily.
Michele Cobb, Chair of the Rotary Club of Beaumont's participation in this community event will share information about how to join the Club's Team for the walk which will take place on Saturday, October 8, 2022.
Rotary Club of Beaumont will Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Saturday, October 8, 2022. We are looking for walkers to raise awareness and fundraisers for this year’s event which is taking place at the Great Lawn at the Event Center in Downtown Beaumont. The event starts at 8am and the walk starts at 9am. This year there will be an option of a 1-mile walk and a 3-mile walk.
If you would like to participate but not wanting to walk, we still need your help. Since Rotary is a National Sponsor of the Alzheimer's Association, Rotary Club of Beaumont will have a booth. We need people to help with this booth and distribute information about the Rotary Club of Beaumont and what we do in the community. This is a great opportunity for us as Rotarians, to meet and possibly welcome new members we meet at this event.
The funds raised at this event will help fight Alzheimer’s disease through research, advocacy efforts, essential support programs and services in our communities.
We look forward to Rotary Club of Beaumont’s first year joining so many other clubs from around the nation.

"What's New at BISD?"

Dr. Shannon Allen started the program off Wednesday with a short video of life on several BISD campuses and then asked the audience to share with each other the special memories we had about our years in school. One common memory many had was the time we shared with friends at school.
The video shared several statistics about BISD, including 16,485 students, 986 teachers, 2278 staff and twenty-seven campuses. There were 1003 graduates from high school in 2022 and 53 Associate degrees awarded. BISD currently has 138 business partners.
She then emphasized the district’s focus on improvement of percentage of third grade students in reading and math on grade level as well as percentage of graduating seniors by 2025. The district is also focused on increasing the number of campuses rated “A” or “B.” There are now two “A” rated campuses, up from one, and eight “B” rated campuses, up from one. There is still a lot of improvement needed to bring the remaining seventeen campuses up from “C” or lower. The district is partnering with outside entities to work with three of the campuses which have chronically struggled to improve.
Another area of top priority for the district is safety of students, teachers, and staff. Students enter school through a main port of entry and all other exterior doors are locked. In secondary schools, all students and visitors must pass through a metal detector and receive a bag search. Major changes for the new school year are that mesh or clear backpacks are now required for students at all levels and cell phone use will only be allowed before or after school.
Dr. Allen also stressed that community participation and involvement is important, and several programs have been in existence or started recently. The new Parents and Community Support, or PACS program was developed to assist campus leaders in monitoring behavior in common areas during transition times and serving as positive role models. Parents have also been involved for several years mentoring young students in reading. Another program is the Campus Champions program where pastors and business leaders adopt and support a school.
Several years ago, a program was started to create a Cardinal NEST at every elementary school. These interactive centers have been developed in conjunction with Lamar University to help children learn in an interactive environment. This was the brainchild of the late Nancy Evans, the spouse of Lamar University's most recent past President Ken Evans and as of last year, every elementary school has one of these interactive centers. Our club sponsored one of the “Nests.”
The district also recently partnered with the YMBL to give 4700 students the opportunity to attend the South Texas State Fair. Many of those students had never had the opportunity to attend the fair. She expects this partnership to continue going forward.
