Magistrate Judge
U.S. District Court, EDTX
Christine Stetson is a Magistrate Judge of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas. Ms. Stetson assumed this office on August 31, 2022.
Magistrate Judges are appointed by judges of the district court for a term of eight years. They may dispose of minor criminal offenses and may hold bench or jury trials in civil actions. In addition, magistrate judges handle preliminary proceedings in felony matters, report and recommend to the district court on dispositive matters in civil cases.
Christine L. Stetson is originally from Glens Falls, New York. She began her legal career as an associate at the Dallas, Texas firm of Bickel & Brewer. In 2000, she began practicing in Beaumont at the former firm of Germer, Bernstein & Gertz.
Christine attended Albany Law School in Albany, New York, class of 1992, graduating cum laude.

T. KELSEY LAMB AWARD FOR BUSINESS ETHICS
The T. Kelsey Lamb Award for Business Ethics is "presented annually to a Beaumont Rotarian who consistently exhibits the highest ethical standards represented by the Rotary Four-Way Test in his or her chosen vocation."
The 2023 recipient of this prestigious honor is Diane Bass.
Her leadership and contributions that she has made to our club and in other volunteer roles has affected our community. Daniel Jeans did a great job in describing the impact she has made. Congratulations to the recipient of the T. Kelsey Lamb Award for Business Ethics, Diane Bass.

PAUL HARRIS FELLOWS AWARDED
Mary Poole presented Tom Lamb, Jr. with a Paul Harris Fellows, while his daughter, Janey Lamb Broussard did the honors of pinning the Paul Harris pin on her father.
The members of this club recognized his efforts and contributions to the Rotary Foundation. The symbolism in this recognition is to say thank you for making a difference in your club and community and in the lives of less fortunate people in the world.

ROTARY AFTER HOURS RECAP
Rotary After Hours was held February 23, 2023. Rotarians enjoyed a nice evening on the patio at Madison's. With Dick LeMasters playing acoustics and a fun mask and hat contest. Diane Thompson won 1st place and Kevin Reed won 2nd place. Thank you to Amanda Ellis, Rotary After Hours committee chair and her committee for heading up this event.

Dr. Simmons spoke to the club regarding the T. Kelsey Lamb, Sr. Ethics Award that we have presented since 1996 to recognize a member who exemplifies excellence in business ethics. He mentioned that it was his honor to be present today with Tom Lamb, Jr., and his family at this special Rotary Event.
Dr. Simmons focused on the people who have made an impact on his life. These are special people who helped him along the way and his list of those was a long one and he shared insight into several special people who helped him along the way.
Arnold Wedbee was a mentor to him since high school in McNeese, LA. He was the school band leader. The summer after graduating high school Jimmy took a summer job in Florida playing an instrument in a band. At that time, he thought he would forego college and just continue as a musician. His parents were “freaked out” at this prospect, and Mr. Wedbee took the time to write a letter to Jimmy telling him he should consider the opportunities that were available to him through scholarships. If he did not take advantage of the college education, he would regret it for the rest of his life. Jimmy changed his mind about college.
During college Ralph Hale became a mentor in Memphis, TN. Ralph introduced him to many people in the music industry, including the symphony and recording studio personnel. The opportunities he gained through this experience were numerous introductions to people who further broadened his contacts for the future.
After graduation from college, he was contacted by the Manager, Tom Ferguson, of the Playboy Club in New Orleans about playing saxophone and piano at the club. He was offered the job. He invited Susan Simmons with him to the Club to see what kind of opportunity this would be. After the trip to the club a decision was made by the couple that it would be a much better opportunity to seek employment as a faculty member at a university.
Lamar offered Jimmy a position as instructor in the music department and marching band director. He accepted the position in 1970. At one point he was offered a position at another university and went to talk with John Gray, President of Lamar at the time. John Gray told Jimmy at that time that he envisioned an upper administration position at the university if he would stay at Lamar. The rest of that story is obvious as he became a respected member of the faculty, then Dean, then President.
Dr. Simmons thanked the club for the $500 Rotary Scholarship that he was offered and accepted while attending college. He is proud of the commitment the Club has made to the community and for honoring special people with this award.
