The Rotary Club of Beaumont, TX, is a large and diverse fellowship of inspired business, professional, and civic leaders with significant community connections that foster the ideals of Service Above Self and high ethical standards.
It is an honor to welcome Congressman Randy Weber as the speaker on October 17.
Congressman Randy Weber is a public servant, proven conservative and successful small business owner representing the 14th District of Texas. Weber currently holds a key leadership role on the Science, Space, and Technology (SST) committee, serving as the Chairman of the Energy Subcommittee. He is also a newly-appointed member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, where he serves on the following Subcommittees: Water Resources and Environment, Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation, as well as Railroads, Pipelines, and Hazardous Materials.
As Chairman of the Energy Subcommittee, Weber’s top priority is to fight for energy policies that will not stifle our economy, but create jobs and promote our business community. As the Congressional member with the largest maritime district in the country, Weber is particularly excited about tackling key legislation like the Water Resource Development Reauthorization Act, the Coast Guard Reauthorization Act, and the FEMA Reauthorization Act.

We need YOU to volunteer to help with the next Rotary Service Project day!
On Saturday, October 20, Rotarians will work with Nehemiah's Vision on home rebuilding projects in Vidor. Plan now to come help this agency with homes that were damaged or completely lost after Hurricane Harvey. The online sign-up is ready for you to indicate if you will work the morning or afternoon shift, or if you work all-day. As Chair Deborah Drago explained, all tools needed will be provided and lunch will be served as well.

You are invited to attend the Club's evening meeting on October 24, World Polio Day, to view the documentary "Dare to Dream: How Rotary Became the Heart and Soul of Polio Eradication." Instead of the Noon meeting on that day, we will convene at 6:30 p.m. at the John Gray Center on the Lamar University campus, enjoy some appetizers and beverages and then preview this one-hour movie.
Please join us and invite your family, friends, and business associates. The admission is $25 and all proceeds will go to the Rotary Foundation and End Polio Now campaign. Gratitude goes to the Lamar University Advancement Department and the Cardiovascular Foundation of Southeast Texas for underwriting the evening!
Funds raised and donated to the End Polio campaign will be matched by both the District 5910 Governor's initiative (1:1) and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (2:1) so your admission fee and all additional donations will be making a significant impact on polio eradication. Polio Chair Gigi Mazzola again asked Rotarians to feed Marco Polio Pig as she started him on his journey around the room during the meeting on October 10. The total for the day was a $283.53! Thank you for your generosity!

The College of Fine Arts and Communications’ vision includes innovation, cross disciplinary awareness, specialization and a faculty that are able to clearly define their contribution to building a reputation. The collaboration with the community and local corporations is very important to the College.
The mission of the college is to develop experimental learning, recruit professors with real-life and professional experience, and prepare students for their future role in improving their societies through the promotion of social justice. This symbiotic relationship is a true commitment to and integrated approach that draws on individual excellence and providing excellence in return to others.
The departments in the College are Music, Art, Theatre and Dance, Communication and Media, Speech and Hearing, and Deaf Studies and Deaf Education. All departments offer a wide variety of opportunities to enjoy and participate in activities with the University and community at large. In addition to the departments the College operates the Dishman Gallery and LUMA (Lamar University Media Association) which includes KVLU, LUYV, LUMA web, and Channel 7.
The community can do a lot to show its support to the College by supporting performances and exhibits, attending lectures, assist in providing scholarships, making internships available, KVLU underwriting and hiring local musicians and artists when possible.
A lot is happening in the College of Fine Arts and Communications that makes our community better and more enlightened.
