Rotary Goes Home, the popular fun event where the weekly Rotary meeting is moved to Rotarian homes, will take place August 30-September 1 in place of the Rotary meeting on August 31.
We have some very gracious members who have volunteered and are hosting some fun events! Thank you to Bobbie Applegate, Joanne Brown, Scott Hatcher, Leonard Juncker, Sharen Kirksey, Becky Mason, Chuck Mason, Ted Moor, and Bel Morian for your gracious hospitality. We are looking forward to it!

Wine Down With Rotary in Second Year!
The second annual "Wine Down With Rotary" fundraiser will be on Thursday, October 6. There will NOT be a Rotary meeting on October 5 so this event will substitute for the meeting of the week.
Get your tickets to attend and some to sell to friends and co-workers at the meeting this week or phone the Rotary Office. It will be another great/not-to-be-missed event!
This year, Wine Down With Rotary will be a celebration of the Centennial of The Rotary Foundation. We will recognize the good works of Rotary through the 100 years of the Foundation.

Interact Leaders Gather and Plan Year
On Saturday, August 13, the leaders of West Brook Interact Club attended a training workshop at Lone Star College - Montgomery and enjoyed time to meet other Interact leaders from across District 5910. Time was provided for the clubs to meet and begin preparing for the 2016-17 academic year.
While students from the Interact Club at Kelly Catholic High School were not able to attend, the sponsor from the Beaumont Rotary Club, Jim Baxter, attended and took copious notes to share with them when they meet in the next month.
Best wishes for a successful year to both Interact Clubs. You make us proud!

In the News: Lamar Rotaract Club Featured in Local Magazine
The Lamar University Rotaract Club earned their share of recent publicity in the Cardinal Cadence magazine (Vol. 44, No.1).
The article highlighted the group's service and says the members' work is "a force multiplier for any project." Their assistance with our projects in the past has certainly been a "multiplier" to our success as well. We are proud of Lamar Rotaract!

Ray Woodard, Lamar University Football Coach, was our speaker for today’s Rotary meeting. Coach Ray Woodard was introduced by W.L. Pate.
Ray Woodard is one of only five college football coaches with an earned Doctorate Degree. Under Coach Woodard, the overall focus regarding players is viewing the individuals as “student-athletes.“ After all, he reminds us, "there is life after college football."
Coach Woodard opened his presentation/pep-talk with a video of highlights of Lamar Football’s 2015-16 season.
At this time of the year, every football coach has high hopes for their team’s potential for the upcoming season. Everyone is excited and optimistic, which they should be.
THIS years Cardinal team has by far the very best field with 41 lettermen returning, including Cade Harrington, the hard-working All-American running back who ran 2100 yards last year. Yes, TWO THOUSAND, ONE HUNDRED YARDS in one season.
Coach Woodard said, “The upcoming 2016-17 Season starts off with some pretty stiff competition, so we should know pretty quickly how good we really are!”
When asked to name this year''s starting quarterback, Coach Woodard quickly replied, “Carson Earp.“
