The Rotary Club of Beaumont, TX, is a large and diverse fellowship of inspired business, professional, and civic leaders with significant community connections that foster the ideals of Service Above Self and high ethical standards.
Dr. Belinda George is proudly serving her second year as Principal of Homer Drive Elementary in Beaumont, TX.
Dr. George is internationally known for reading to her scholars online via Facebook Live, which she has coined as “Tucked in Tuesdays.” In addition, during her first year as principal, she made home visits to over 10% of her scholars. Her aim is to form relationships beyond the four walls and serve Homer Drive’s 94% economically disadvantaged student body at home. She is passionate and her love for kids drives her decisions and culture of her campus.
Dr. George currently serves on the Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association Programs and Services Committee at the local and state level.

Service Above Self: "Sleep in Heavenly Peace" project constructing beds (see article and sign up below)

Can you imagine your children or grandchildren having to sleep on the floor every night? It's hard to believe that there are hundreds of children in our local area doing that. The request for beds is well over 400! Let's do something about that staggering number. A local non-profit named "Sleep in Heavenly Peace" is working diligently to construct twin beds and fulfill the needs. A mattress and bedding is also given to each child so they can sleep in their own bed "in heavenly peace."
On Saturday, February 29, the agency has set up a special day for our Club and friends to work together and build beds. No tools are needed and no carpentry skills are required! Wear your "Rotarian at Work" shirt and come get a little sawdust in your hair and let's see how many beds we can complete that day. Work will begin at 8:15 and last until Noon. Children and teens are invited to take part too, but a parent must be present with each minor child.
Shout-out to our friends and fellow Rotarians in the Spindletop Club who worked at the build day on Saturday, February 15!
FACEBOOK POST - Update on February 15 workday:
On a cold Saturday 2/15, (65) volunteers built (48) beds. The other amazing fact is over 2/3 of the volunteers were “First-Timers”. Among those helping, Spindletop Rotary (8), Cintas Uniform Company, (13), Woodville Lions Club (3). THANK YOU TO EVERYONE FOR A GREAT BUILD.
THE BAD NEWS! We only have enough bed clothes to deliver less than half of the beds we built. HELP!
If you cannot work on February 29, why don't you donate the bed linens needed for a child's bed? You can purchase a bed-in-a-bag from WalMart for about $30-$35. Purchase or order a twin-size set and bring it to the meeting on Wednesday, February 19th or on Wednesday, February 26th and we will be happy to deliver it for you.

The Rotary Club of Beaumont is pleased to announce its scholarship to be awarded to two high school students graduating in 2020.
The application must be completed by all students wishing to be considered for a Rotary Club of Beaumont Scholarship. The Scholarship Committee will review all applications and recommend to the Board those two students whose academic success, leadership potential, and community service activities demonstrate a commitment to “Service Above Self.”

Deadline for application is March 1st. Only applications that are completed and received by the deadline will be considered. No electronic submissions are accepted. Application can be delivered (address above left) or mailed but it must be RECEIVED (NOT postmarked) by March 1. "Rotary Has Heart: Service Day"
"Rotary Has Heart!", our Club's traditional day of service is now in the history books and can be deemed another successful day. There are not many times when we are able to bring the projects to the volunteers but this is one special day for that reason. What we lacked in the number of people present was made up for by the zeal and enthusiasm of the those who took part in this great service opportunity.
The Club was honored to have Julie Reid, Associate Director of Administration for Nehemiah's Vision, speak a few minutes about the disaster work that the organization continues to do in the area. Nehemiah's Vision was a leader in the recovery work following Hurricane Harvey and its destruction in the area in 2017. Since Tropical Storm Imelda in 2019, Nehemiah's Vision is the only organization serving those in need. Rotarians were pleased to learn they have a large group of volunteers coming to the area during March spring breaks to help out. President Joe Domino presented Nehemiah's Vision with a check for $2,000 from the Rotary Club of Beaumont and the Beaumont Rotary Foundation to assist them in their continuing work.
Following the brief meeting, Rotarians were ready to get busy with four projects on this day of volunteer service. Everyone first assembled the layette bags which are prepared each year as the club's traditional international project, funding in part by a District 5910 grant matching the clubs donation of $3,000. The layette bags are badly needed in the Rotary clinic in Chinandega, Nicaragua. The 150 bags were assembled and zipped up for shipping in less than 15 minutes!
Without hesitation, Rotarians then spread out to begin work on three projects for non-profits in our area which needed a helping hand on a project they each had underway. While doing this assembly work, Rotarians are able to learn about the non-profit and will hopefully find ways they might be able to continue volunteering in the future.
The Julie Rogers Gift of Life program brought supplies, water bottles and snacks so Rotarians could help assemble fifty "blessing bags" for patients undergoing chemotherapy treatments.
Boys Haven had invitations to the Boys Haven Crawfish Festival that needed to be assembled for the upcoming event and 200 are now ready to be mailed for publicizing the fundraiser.
Crime Stoppers needed a hand assembling informational folders to be given out to the public. The volunteers were able to complete 100 of those informational pieces.
