Maestro Chelsea Tipton, II
Symphony of Southeast Texas Music Director
Chelsea Tipton II is a highly esteemed American conductor recognized for his exceptional musicality, versatility, and unwavering commitment to arts education. He is currently in his seventeenth season as Music Director of the Symphony of Southeast Texas and his twelfth season as Principal Pops Conductor of the New Haven Symphony Orchestra. Recently appointed Principal Guest Conductor of the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra—his hometown ensemble—Tipton also serves on the conducting staff at the Interlochen Center for the Arts each summer.
His previous posts include seven seasons as Resident Conductor of the Toledo Symphony Orchestra and four seasons as Associate Conductor of the Savannah Symphony Orchestra. A sought-after guest conductor, Tipton has collaborated with leading orchestras including the Cleveland Orchestra, Boston Pops Orchestra, American Composers Orchestra, Vermont Symphony Orchestra, Detroit Symphony, Pittsburgh Symphony, Houston Symphony, Czech National Symphony Orchestra and Virginia Symphony, among many others. In 2011, he toured with Sting across fourteen European countries, performing with nineteen orchestras, and reunited with Sting for a special performance with the Greensboro Symphony in November 2021. In the current season, Tipton is engaged as guest conductor with the West Virginia Symphony, Orlando Philharmonic, Greensboro Symphony Orchestra, and New Haven Symphony Orchestra, in addition to his performances at the Julie Rogers Theater in Beaumont.
Tipton’s contributions to music and community have earned him numerous accolades. He was the featured honoree at the Gift of Life Champagne & Ribs Gala and the guest “Roastee” at the Spindletop Rotary Club Celebrity Roast. He received the Aspire Award from the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and was named Citizen of the Year by the Neches River Festival in Beaumont. Additionally, Capital One Bank honored him with the Community Spotlight Award for his leadership in Beaumont. In a notable moment, Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner selected Tipton to conduct the Houston Symphony Orchestra in a memorial concert honoring President George H.W. Bush. He has also performed at the Apollo Theater in New York City with the American Composers Orchestra, premiering works by African American composers, and in May 2023, conducted the ensemble in a special “Sonic Collective Ring Shout” performance at the Kennedy Center.
Tipton holds a Master of Music degree in orchestral conducting from Northern Illinois University and a Bachelor of Music degree in clarinet performance from the Eastman School of Music. He pursued further studies at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and participated in esteemed professional development programs, including the International Conducting Workshop and Festival, the Conductors Retreat at Medomak, the Pierre Monteux School for Conductors in Hancock, Maine, and the Baltimore Chamber Orchestra Conductor’s Workshop with Markand Thakar. A passionate advocate for arts education, Tipton actively mentors college students pursuing careers in classical music and the arts.

WALK TO END ALZHEIMER'S
Please mark your calendars to join us on Saturday, October 4th for the Walk to End Alzheimer's at the Great Lawn at the Event Center located at 700 Crockett St. We will have a booth again this year and there is the option again this year to walk the 1 mile or the 3 mile course.

The Walk to End Alzheimer's is held annually in more than 600 communities nationwide and is the world's largest fundraiser for Alzheimer's care, support and research. This inspiring event calls on participants of all ages and abilities to join the fight against the disease.
Since 1989, the Alzheimer’s Association mobilized millions of Americans in the Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk® ; now the Alzheimer's Association is continuing to lead the way with Walk to End Alzheimer's.
While there is no fee to register for Walk, all participants are encouraged to raise critical funds that allow the Alzheimer’s Association to provide 24/7 care and support and advance research toward methods of prevention, treatment and, ultimately, a cure.

Program Review: Debbie Maxwell
On Wednesday, September 3, the Rotary Club of Beaumont’s noon meeting was called to order by President Uliana Trylowsky to a room filled with members and many guests. Present at the head table were: Dana Timaeus providing Invocation, David Hines leading pledges to the flags, John Rollins welcoming and introducing many guests.
A “flag exchange” was done with Rebecca Harding of the Rotary Club of Frisco. Five Blue Badges were presented by Michael Perez and awarded to: Ruby Leday, John Beaver, Jeffrey Richardson, Stephanie Harris and Andrea Brown.
Announcements included: there would be a Holiday Party planning meeting following today’s meeting; and Robert Kocot reminded that the Wine Down with Rotary Fundraiser was still needing tickets sold, sponsorships and donations of wine of $20+ value.
Juan Zabala introduced the guest speaker: Jeff O’Malley, Director of Athletics for Lamar University. Jeff previously served 20 years at Marshall University. Since taking his position in 2022, Jeff’s programs have made many changes, improvements, and received several awards. When he first arrived in the area and sought support from local businesses, Lamar was not having the most impressive outcomes. He has been able to now go back to these businesses and show the improvements accomplished and receiving the support from the community. One of the biggest contributing factors is having Lamar athletics on ESPN, with over 5 million viewers and 88 LU events shown on ESPN. Jeff attributed that success to their very good production team. He noted that since 2021-22 the teams have all had significant increase in wins: football, volleyball, both men and women basketball. One of the difficulties of the job and the games are very frequent changing of the rules for college sports and it is hard to keep abreast of these changes.

President Uliana announced that a typical donation to Rotary International will be made on Jeff’s behalf in the area of “Basic Education and Literacy”. Next week’s speaker announced to be Chelsea Tipton, conductor of the Symphony of Southeast Texas. After reciting the 4-way test, the meeting was adjourned.
