Dr. Rodolfo P. Sotolongo is an accomplished Interventional Cardiologist and the President of Southeast Texas Cardiology Associates, Vascular Center & Vein Clinic located here in Beaumont, TX. He has been in practice here, in Southeast Texas since 1982 and founded and served as the Medical Director of the Southeast Texas Clinical Research Center, contributing significantly to the advancement of cardiology from 1998 to 2020.
Dr. Sotolongo's career includes extensive educational achievements, including a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Santiago, Spain, and fellowships and residencies at prestigious institutions such as Baylor College of Medicine and Georgetown University Medical Center.
Throughout his career, Dr. Sotolongo has held teaching positions at various institutions, including the University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston, where he served as an Assistant and Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine. He has been actively involved in clinical research, serving as Principal Investigator in numerous trials focused on cardiovascular diseases.
As a board-certified Interventional Cardiologist, and vascular specialist, Dr. Sotolongo possesses a diverse skill set, including expertise in cardiac catheterization, angioplasty, pacemaker insertion, trans aortic valve replacements and limb salvage procedures, among other cardiovascular interventions. He is a member of several scientific societies, including the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association.
Dr. Sotolongo's dedication to the field of cardiology extends beyond clinical practice and research. He has served in leadership roles, including Chairman of Cardiology and Critical Care at Baptist Hospital of Southeast Texas, and as President of the American Heart Association's Jefferson County chapter.
In addition to his professional achievements, Dr. Sotolongo has contributed to the medical literature with publications on topics ranging from coronary angioplasty to hypersensitivity reactions. He has received recognition for his work, including the J.C. Crager Award from the American Heart Association. He is also the founder and president of local nonprofit, the Cardiovascular Foundation of Southeast Texas.
Born in Havana, Cuba, Dr. Sotolongo became a U.S. citizen in 1970. He is fluent in both English and Spanish and is married with three children. Through his expertise, leadership, and commitment to advancing cardiovascular medicine, Dr. Sotolongo continues to make significant contributions to the field and the well-being of his patients.

Elton Hollis provides consulting services for safety, quality, and compliance in the field of industrial construction. He believes that collaborating with others is the best way to make progress in everything we do. He considers himself a “dreaming realist.”
With the topic of collaboration, Mr. Hollis presented examples to how Rotary and Industrial Construction organizations can collaborate for a safer and better future.
Networking and collaboration help individuals work together in many different ways. Networking allows people to meet each other in order to share information about what everyone has to bring to the table in an effort to work together in business projects as well as service projects that benefit the community. There is lots of work available in the community but we also need to have a “soul” behind us to present the community with a picture of partnership and caring about the community, not just the economic benefit that companies receive.
Community service projects increase the quality of life in the local community. The industrial construction industry can lend its expertise, resources and manpower to help in these projects. People of all job classifications and professions working on a project together is a bonus to any community and Southeast Texas has a strong reputation in this area. The projects can bond friendships, working relationships and connections to other opportunities.
Advocacy and awareness of social issues within the community is an important factor. Rotary works on various social issues such as education, healthcare, environmental sustainability and poverty alleviation. Industrial construction can support these campaigns by sharing expertise and helpful insights that show the community what can be done and what opportunities can make the community a better place to live.
Presently 86.3 billion dollars of construction projects are in place in Southeast Texas. The area is working on providing more clean and solar energy and other methods to create different types of fuels rather than just fossil fuels. With some industries closing, the area has been resourceful in researching other possibilities and opportunities. More entrepreneurs add new opportunities to the area and create a better result for the entire community and to grow their businesses. Collaboration between business and the community will result in a winning combination.
