We are grateful for the opportunity to serve alongside other community members and support an organization making a difference in the lives of others.
A big THANK YOU to all our Rotarians who volunteered and to The Giving Field for the incredible work they do in our community! This is what Service Above Self looks like!
The Rotary Club of Beaumont held its regular Wednesday meeting with President Jay Wilson, Jr. leading the program and sharing updates on upcoming club activities and service opportunities. Members were reminded that October is Polio Awareness Month and encouraged to contribute to the PolioPlus Society before the end of the month. The club also promoted the World Polio Day walk on October 24, inviting Rotarians to participate in the mile-long walk through Riverfront Park. Nate Jennings provided a membership update, reporting 76 potential members and three new Rotarians since the beginning of the year. He emphasized the importance of welcoming guests, building relationships, and encouraging visitors to return to future meetings.
Steve Shoemaker shared information about the upcoming Giving Field event, highlighting volunteer opportunities for setup, cleanup, and event support throughout the weekend. Members were encouraged to register through the volunteer section of the Rotary Grant calendar. Stephanie Harris provided an update on the upcoming Wine Down with Rotary event, thanking sponsors for their support and encouraging members to purchase tickets and invite previous guests. Rotarians were also asked to contribute a bottle of wine or a lottery ticket for the raffle basket, or make a monetary donation toward the purchases. A donation to Rotary International's Community Economic Development area of focus would also be made in honor of guest speaker Arianna Ebers Kucharski.
The featured program was presented by Arianna Ebers Kucharski, certified sommelier and owner of Bon Vivant wine bar, who shared an educational presentation on wine appreciation and tasting techniques. She explained the four steps of wine tasting: observing appearance, evaluating aromas, assessing the palate, and drawing conclusions. Members learned about the characteristics that influence a wine's flavor and quality, including fruit aromas, acidity, sweetness, tannins, body, alcohol content, fermentation methods, and oak aging. Ariana also discussed the differences between winemaking techniques, the importance of proper wine storage and preservation, and how wine closures and decanting can affect freshness and flavor.
The meeting concluded with a reminder about the upcoming Wine Down with Rotary event, which will take the place of the club's regular meeting the following Wednesday. Members were encouraged to attend, support the event, and help promote Rotary's service initiatives throughout the community. The program combined fellowship, membership development, and service announcements with an engaging educational presentation that gave attendees a greater appreciation for wine and the techniques used to evaluate it.
