"WOMEN ALSO SERVE"

Don't miss this opportunity!  In celebration of International Women's Day 2018, the Rotary Club of Beaumont will welcome Dr. Sylvia Whitlock to Beaumont to speak at the March 7, 2018 meeting.  Sylvia travels extensively, sharing her story of the first Rotary Club in the world to open its membership to women, even before the International organization had officially approved women in the male-only organization.  Not only were the women welcomed, Sylvia became the first woman to hold the office of President within her club.  Come hear her story - from her!

Members will be asked to make a reservation for this meeting as we are expecting a large number of visitors and Rotarians from other clubs.  We need reservations in order to have adequate seating and meals prepared.  Guest meal tickets are $18; click here to make a reservation and purchase by credit card.   February 28 is the deadline to purchase tickets and make reservations.

PROGRAM REVIEW
February 7, 2018

"The Musical Journey Continues"

Chelsea Tipton
Conductor and Music Director
Symphony of Southeast Texas
 by Bobbie Applegate

The club’s favorite Maestro, Chelsea Tipton, was the featured speaker today to announce the Symphony of Southeast Texas’s upcoming year beginning in September of 2018.  The new season will be a celebration of Chelsea’s 10 years as Music Director for the Symphony.

Reaching out to the community has been a goal of the Symphony.  The creation of concerts at Shangri La Gardens and Lamar at Port Arthur are included in the schedule for 2018-2019.  Chamber groups will also be scheduled in the schools to introduce young listeners to a different world of music. The artistic quality of the orchestra has increased over the years and touring the community is seen as an outreach and challenge to the community to receive and appreciate the quality of musicianship that is here.    Chelsea sees the tours of the community as part of educating Southeast Texas in the joy of music.

This fall will include a collaboration with Marsha Woody’s ballet company.  The schedule includes the following at the Julie Rogers Theatre:
New York, New York, Jazz Meets Classics (September 15)
Ella & Louis, Great Friends, Great Music (October 6)
                Pastoral Germanic Settings (November 17)
                Passionate Portraits (February 2)
An Evening with the Texas Tenors (March 2)
                French Pairings (April 6)

The Shangri La Gardens concert is to be announced for the fall, Home for the Holidays is Sunday December 2 and, of course, the July 4th concert will be presented prior to the fireworks.

Maestro’s love of music and the arts is very apparent, and it is contagious!
