This week's meeting is all about Rotary Has Heart! 💖 In the spirit of Service Above Self, we’ll be filling layette bags with supplies for expecting and new mothers in Roatan. We’ll also have other nonprofit organizations on hand with projects that need your help. After our preliminaries, we’ll divide into groups to get to work and make a difference. We look forward to seeing you there!

The T. Kelsey Lamb, Sr. Award for Business Ethics is presented annually to a Beaumont Rotarian who consistently exhibits the highest ethical standards represented by the Rotary Four-Way Test in his or her chosen vocation.

The original criteria for the award explains:
Nominees must be a member in good standing of the Rotary Club of Beaumont.
Nominees will have exhibited high ethical standards in their chosen vocation arising from a specific incident or by their consistent actions over a period of time.

First presented in 1996, the T. Kelsey Lamb, Sr. Award for Business Ethics has annually recognized some of the Club's outstanding members. In 2024, this prestigious honor was presented to Roger McCabe.

An annual tradition since 1996, the Award is named in honor of the late T. Kelsey Lamb, Sr. who served as 1942-43 President of our club and as 1951-52 District Governor. On a mild day of February 5, attendees arriving for the Rotary Club of Beaumont’s noon meeting at the MCM Elegante Hotel were greeted at registration by Christina Lokey. The meeting was called to order by club President Michael Perez. Joining Michael at the head table were: Jason Apodaca providing the Invocation, Bruce Walker leading in pledges to the flags, Diane Thompson to welcome guests, and Virtue Alexander to introduce our speaker. Diane’s welcome extended to include visitors from the Spindletop Rotary Club: Freddie Willard and Rebecca Woodland. Also assisting with today’s meeting were Jeff Beavers for meal tickets and Larry Beaulieu serving as IT assistant to MiKayla.
Announcements included: Flag project on 2/17, Rotary After Hours on 2/20, the Pt. Arthur Rotary Club gumbo fundraiser on 2/22. Bobbie Applegate extended an invitation for the “30 Something” promotion for newer members of our club to meet for lunch Friday, 2/7 at American Air. Uliana Trylowsky presented a “red badge” to Brooke Morrow, “blue badges” to Caralee Thompson and Mary Pat Jones, and a “Masters advancement” to Terri Potter.
Emily Wheeler was introduced as today’s speaker. Emily is the Director of Event Services and Chief Marketing Officer for the City of Beaumont – which includes overseeing six venues throughout the city. She has many years of experience in event planning, marketing and community engagement. Included in her scope of duties, Emily oversees the maintenance of many of the city’s buildings and offices, plans special events for the enjoyment of the community and aids with emergency management operations when needed. She is a graduate of Lamar University, and has served in leadership positions and on boards of several community nonprofits. On a personal note, Emily is a proud graduate of Lamar University, married to Jeff and they have 2 daughters.
Through her presentation, Emily reviewed the 6 city venues which combined serves over 500 events annually. The city has 7 annual community events such as Juneteenth and Viva Hispanic Festival. She has found that comedy shows have become very popular having done 10 shows in the past 12 months. There have been activities such as Summer Concert Series and Jazz at the Lake. A unique feature to the Jefferson Theatre venue is the prized Morton Pipe Organ – which will be used soon for a playing of the “Phantom of the Opera”.
The next Rotary meeting will be Wednesday, February 12 at noon and will include activities for “Rotary has a Heart”.
