In 1918-19 under the leadership of President Henry Keith, members of the Rotary Club of Beaumont became dedicated to the goal of organizing and sponsoring the first Beaumont Council for Boy Scouts. Rotarians raised the funds needed and achieved that goal, and Beaumont saw the first Council established and begin to grow and flourish.
Fast forward to 2019 and the Scouts are celebrating 100 years of successfully impacting the lives of thousands of young people in Beaumont and a continuing relationship with the Rotary Club of Beaumont. Les Bentley is the current CEO of the Three Rivers Council and will describe today's Scouting program and the many opportunities it provides to youth in Beaumont and the surrounding area.

Spindletop Rotary Club will be hosting the 2nd annual Rise Against Hunger service project on March 26th! Volunteers are needed to to help package 10,000 meals for people around the world facing chronic hunger. You can volunteer for 30 minutes or the entire time, it's up to you! COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT AT PEITZSCH-MacARTHUR
Rotarians will participate in creating an innovative learning lab called “The Nest” at Pietzsch-MacArthur Elementary School (4301 Highland Ave, Beaumont 77705) on Saturday, March 30. According to Community Service Projects committee chair, Deborah Drago, "nest-building" will start at 9:00 a.m. and finish at 3:00 p.m. and will include assembling and setting up supplies and equipment. Just two hours of your time will help provide PMac “nestlings” with experiential learning opportunities to promote early college awareness.

The Rotary Club of Beaumont in cooperation with the Beaumont Rotary Foundation, Inc. is pleased to announce that applications are now being accepted for a scholarship designed for “Non-Traditional” students pursuing an undergraduate degree at Lamar University. A designated committee of Rotary members will review the applications and select the top students to be interviewed for the one available scholarship. We would appreciate your help in identifying qualified candidates for the scholarship which is generously supported by members of the Rotary Club of Beaumont.
Shannon is Associate Superintendent in Beaumont ISD where she started her career 22 years ago as a substitute teacher. Not surprisingly for an educator, she loves to read and has a number of favorite authors. Shannon enjoys exercising and aspires to become Superintendent one day.
Cheryl Bilyeu
From Tulsa, OK, Cheryl graduated from the University of Oklahoma and loves being in Texas where she and her husband, Ray, can enjoy racing boats on the McCoullough Racing team. They also love to go fishing offshore in the Gulf of Mexico. Cheryl recently began working for Gulf Coast Business Development for Cotton Culinary/Logistics, a division of Cotton Holdings, a disaster restoration company.
Tish Cornell
Tish is employed with Common Cents Credit Union as the Marketing Specialist. A recent Lamar graduate in Sociology, Tish is planning to enroll in the Master's program. Her hobbies include art and photography, and she and her husband, Chris, enjoy travelling together and taking spontaneous road trips.
We send wishes for a quick recovery to our friends and fellow Rotarians who are ill, are anticipating or recovering from surgery, or just in need of encouragement, support and good wishes.

Rebekah Maxwell began the day’s program with a brief overview of Rotaract Clubs. The first club was started in North Carolina in 1968. Since that time, 8.000 University and Community Clubs have been founded with 184,000 members worldwide. Lamar Rotaract was started by our club in 2003.
Mayor Becky Ames read a City of Beaumont Proclamation for March 13, 2019, siting the services and projects that the Lamar Rotaract Club has made since its beginning.
Mary Kim, President of the Lamar club, introduced members of the Lamar group who attended the meeting. Mary is a junior this year. Mary’s first mention of Rotary was in first grade when all first- grade students were given an “I Like Me” book. She still has the book. When she was in junior high school, she attended a meeting of high school services clubs and became interested in Interact. Her freshman year, Mary joined the Interact Club of Westbrook. She attended RYLA as a delegate and she is one of our club’s scholarship recipients.
The Lamar group has been involved in two international projects in Belize and Nicaragua. They raised funds to dig a water well in Nicaragua and the End Polio Now campaign. Current projects of the club include Valentine’s Day Goodie bags to Boys and Girls Haven, assisting with RYLA, End Polio Now, Ubi Caritas Date Night Auction, Wine Down Rotary with our club, Rotary Has a Heart, and cards for Rotarian Veterans, and Gift Baskets for First Responders. The Lamar Rotaract Club has been the recipient of the outstanding Service Organization of the Year at the annual awards banquet for the last 8 consecutive years.
Our club is very proud to be associated with this fine group of students.
