SALVATION ARMY RED KETTLE PROJECT
Many Rotarians will share their holiday cheer by showing up for the Red Kettle Bell Ringing at Parkdale Mall Saturday, December 7. Thank you to Paul Koester for chairing this project!
Every year, nearly 30 million Americans receive assistance from The Salvation Army in the form of meals, shelter, after-school programs, job referrals, youth shelter intervention programs, rehabilitation services, and more. The gifts you help collect through the Red Kettle will enable these local Salvation Army programs and services to continue providing help and hope to those in need.
For a number of years, the Rotary Club of Beaumont has been one of the many organizations that tend a booth at Parkdale Mall and participate in the collection process. It is a demonstration of "Service Above Self."

Captain Inga Almquist USAF
MQ-9 Instructor Pilot

Captain Inga Almquist was the guest speaker at the November 13 meeting of the Rotary Club of Beaumont for the annual Veterans Day program. Captain Almquist is a pilot of the MQ-9 RPA (Remotely Piloted Aircraft) known as The Reaper. The Reaper has a wingspan of 66 feet, a maximum speed of 276 MPH, and is capable of continuous flights of over 24 hours. The “bird” has a very sophisticated Multi-Spectral Targeting System (MTS) including several types of sensors for various conditions.
The MQ-9 can be outfitted with eight laser-guided Hellfire missiles, GBU-12 bombs, or external fuel tanks for extended flight times. Captain Almquist reinforced the importance of the teamwork necessary to ensure a successful mission including the maintenance crews that ensure that “A crew save is a good save”. She also touted the search and rescue capabilities of the MQ-9 in addition to providing ‘real time’ feedback to first responders battling the recent California Dixie Fire.
A former Rotary Interact club president, Captain Almquist is currently serving at March ARB in Riverside, California, as an MQ-9A Pilot Instructor and Assistant Director of Operations for the 492 ATKS, 49th Operations Group, Air Education and Training Command. As an instructor, she instructs USAF and Joint procedures for basic and advanced combat missions, including Intelligence/Surveillance/Reconnaissance (ISR), Combat Search and Rescue (CSAR), Close Air Support (CAS), as well as strike coordination tactics in support of operational unit and COCOM (Combatant Command) requirements.
Captain Almquist holds a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from Northern Kentucky University, and a Master of Science in Information Science from the University of North Texas.
Meeting arrangements were overseen by Dr. Jeannette Fresne at the lunch line, Jeff Beaver and Jaques Gagne at the Finance table, Lynn Castle delivering the invocation, Lee Potter leading the pledges, Dena Hughes introducing guests, and Dr. Arne Almquist announcing his daughter Captain Inga Almquist as guest speaker. Cheryl Bilyeu announced next week’s Fire and EMT Recognition Program, Amanda Ellis reminded Rotarians to bring canned goods to meetings between November 13-20 then serve at Some Other Place on November 26, and Paul Koester provided an update on the upcoming Salvation Army Bell Ringers annual service project.
