On the brink of the 2021 Hurricane season, everyone in this region of the nation, turn our attention to preparedness. An agency like the American Red Cross is a year-round responder to disasters of all kinds and people like Chester Jourdan must be ready to respond to floods, wildfires, hurricanes/tropical storms, and even mass-shootings.
As Executive Director, American Red Cross Southeast and Deep East Texas (www.redcross.org), Chester serves in a leadership role to improve the resiliency of the communities served by the Red Cross. His leadership helps community and business leaders respond to and recover from natural and man-made disasters as well as promoting the growth, quality and constituency of Red Cross programs and services throughout the Golden Triangle and Deep East Texas Counties.
Chester provides leadership, community engagement, and fundraising expertise working with corporate and community leaders, non-profits, foundations, trusts, civic organizations, local governments, staff and volunteers throughout Southeast and Deep East Texas. Chester focuses on strengthening not only current relationships but developing new ones as well. He serves the Texas Gulf Coast Region through the work and mission of disaster preparedness, response and recovery to service to the military, veterans and their families to volunteer recruitment to fundraising.

The 2021 District 5910 Conference was historical! With top-notch speakers, a well-planned schedule, and over 100 attendees, the annual event was much like any other year in the District's history. However, this year's event, like 2020, was completely virtual. Each of the two meeting days began with a brief time for some social interaction. Those who joined the meeting were engaged in listening to Dr. Sylvia Whitlock on Thursday and Ann Lee Hussey on Friday.
Sylvia Whitlock shared her story of being among the very first women to join a Rotary Club anywhere in the world, and about becoming the first female to serve as a Club President. Was it really because she "missed the meeting" when she was selected to the position?
Ann Lee Hussey, a polio survivor told of her experience as a victim of polio as a young child, the impact on her family, and her work in the years since to forever eradicate the dreaded disease from the world.
On Saturday, Rotarians from across District 5910 gathered in Cleveland to assemble meals with a project called "Rise Against Hunger." This fun project feeds thousands around the world by providing packages of rice, soy and seasonings to those in need around the globe.
