On August 26, 2014, Senator Brandon Creighton was sworn in as a Texas State Senator "to represent the citizens of Senate District 4, which encompasses Chambers, Jefferson, and parts of Montgomery, Harris, and Galveston Counties.
Over four terms in the House of Representatives, Brandon earned a reputation as one of the most conservative, hardworking and effective legislators in the Texas Capitol. During his tenure as State Representative for District 16, he was elected by his peers to serve as Chairman of the Texas House Republican Caucus. He also served as Chairman of House Federalism Committees tasked with overseeing the state’s relationship with the federal government and ensuring that Texas’ constitutional rights are protected.
Throughout his legislative career, his priorities have distinguished him as a genuine defender of conservative values including hammering excessive taxation, implementing, loser pays, tort reform, drug testing for unemployment benefits, standing up for Texas’ 10th Amendment rights and blocking Obamacare’s Medicaid expansion."

Co-Chairs Angela Baker and David Locke have announced the first wine-tasting event to benefit the Beaumont Rotary Foundation and the education projects it funds. Make plans to be a part on Thursday, October 1 from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. at the Beaumont Event Centre.
Envisioned and inspired by President Pat Anderson, the event will recognize the selfless work of the members of the Board of Managers while the Club raises necessary funds for our education projects. And, as Pat has said many times, it will meet the FIFTH question of the Four-Way Test: Is it fun?
We need sponsors for many aspects of the event: $400 underwrites a table of appetizers, $250 funds a case of wine, even your $100 donation will help us give complimentary tickets and gifts to our honorees, cover printing and advertising costs, etc. (Click on image below to see what Sponsorships are still available.)
We are grateful for the sponsors who have already confirmed their support: Sam Fazio/The Printery is donating the event tickets, MehaffyWeber & Danielle Faraci will provide wine glasses, and Bobbie Applegate will underwrite two cases of wine. We will be advertising for them in return for their donation. Please patronize these businesses in return for their support of our efforts and please add your business to the list of sponsors!
Of course, the event will only be successful with lots of people attending. We need Rotarians to purchase and sell tickets! For only $35 (in advance), you and your friends can enjoy a tasting of up to six carefully selected, choice wines. We will soon have tickets for members to take on consignment so you can sell at your workplace and to friends. Please get a bundle at the meeting or phone the Rotary office at 842-1913.
For your convenience, we will make it possible for Rotarians to purchase tickets and make donations online by credit card. We will advise you by email as soon as that site is available.
Rotarian Craig Lively, Judge of the City of Beaumont Municipal Court, was honored at the 2015 "Hope for Tomorrow" Luncheon benefiting the Salvation Army and the Boys & Girls Club of Beaumont. Craig was selected for the honor based on his courtroom work with families and especially children.
That's right! It might have not been the thing to do in elementary school but now we WANT you to tell on your friends! Tell us of their accomplishments and recognition so we can share that with Rotary friends too.
****************
Tell on fellow Rotarians' activities and what they are doing when they are not at work! Tell about the ways you are being of service within the community so we can spread information of the many places where Rotarians can give "Service Above Self" on a non-club project or with a non-profit organization. Knowing of a fellow Rotarian giving of their time and talents prompts another to know it is a good way to get involved too.
Jim Clark’s information on the business side to running Lutcher Theatre was eye opening for most members. The Lutcher has a 1.5 million dollar performing arts budget and it is opening its 36th season this October 3rd with Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
Jim explained that in today’s world, individuals who manage performing arts facilities and/or museums will be degreed by a university with either a MA or MBA. This was not the case for “his” generation of arts managers. He came from the performance area and developed management skills while working in the job. The next generation will be trained prior to the job. The manager needs to articulate to the public concerning all areas of the arts and manage a facility as well.
At the Lutcher, the average cost per program is $68,500: that includes the cost of the production company, rights to the production and the facility. At the Lutcher, which seats 1400, the average audience is 1200 and the average ticket price is $59. Total income for the 2014/15 season was $1,513,000 of which 70% went to the payment of fees and marketing.
Surprisingly, actors and dancers with a production make between $350 and $400 a week with room and board covered. It takes about 8 hours to set the stage for the productions and same amount on tear down. It is a long day for those traveling with the sets.
Other productions of the year at the Lutcher include:
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (October 3)
Symphony of Southeast Texas (with our own Chelsea Tipton) will be presented on “The Great Lawn” on October 18th
Vince Gill and the Time Jumpers (November 4)
Ragtime, December 12)
A Very Electric Christmas (December 5)
The Producers (January 15, 2016)
Annie (January 25)
The Hillbenders (bluegrass musicians) on (February 2)
The Bank of the Royal Marines US Tour 2016 (February 16)
