Martin Elementary
The Rotary Club of Beaumont has partnered with Martin Elementary for the Literacy Program as well as the ROAR program. Because of this, May 23rd was a great day for the Rotary Club of Beaumont. Rotarians and family members gathered at Martin Elementary School to assemble and distribute book bags for the students in their ‘Rotary Goes to School’ program. Martin Elementary students previously selected the books that they wanted to read during the Summer break. This program supports one of Rotary International’s 7 Areas of Focus; Basic Education and Literacy.
We will hear how these programs have impacted the students at Martin Elementary.

ROTARY GOES TO SCHOOL
Rotary Goes to School is complete for 2023. We were able to fill 80 bags for the second grade students at Martin Elementary. The students were able to pick out 10 books out of 40 in order to bring home for the summer. Rotarians gathered to organize and fill the backpacks with the books. Each book had a customized label with the students name. The students were excited to receive their books! Thank you to Jacques Gagne for organizing this event!

Crime Stoppers

Jeremy Raley is the Administrator and campus coordinator for Crime Stoppers of Southeast Texas. The local Crime Stoppers organization began in 1981 and was led by our own Larry Beaulieu. Crime Stoppers is a nonprofit organization that is managed by a local board of directors and is controlled by the Texas Governor’s office. The purpose of Crime Stoppers is to provide the community with a resource to provide information, concerns and details regarding crime and nefarious activities on an anonymous basis. It’s important to emphasize that all informants are 100% anonymous. Crime Stoppers of Southeast Texas services Jefferson, Hardin, Orange, and Jasper counties and works closely with all police departments, sheriff’s office and the Department of Public Safety.
The biggest misconceptions regarding providing information to law enforcement agencies is the age old adage of “Snitches Get Stitches.” The is false because all data regarding informants is (again) 100% anonymous. Anonymity is guaranteed by the state government and Informants are also paid based on the crime that was committed or prevented. In 2021, there were 1,065 tips provided and in 2022, there were 1,674. Jeremy urged us as a community to use Crime Stoppers with the question, “What if the victim was your friend, or a family member like a spouse or child?”
Crime Stopper also serves many of the school district. The vandals that cause so much to damage to LCM High School were arrested by the public offering information thru Crime Stoppers. Students can also use Crime Stoppers to prevent and stop students from using vape pens with TCH, bullying and theft.
There are three ways to use Crime Stoppers. First, call 409-833-TIPS and speak to the operator. Second, download and use the app: P3 Tips. Finally, you can use the website: 833tips.com.
Jeremy Raley did an outstanding job educating us on the merits of Crime Stoppers of Southeast Texas and now it is our responsibility to inform others how and when to use such a great service.
