PROGRAM REVIEW
August 21, 2024

Jason Watson
Environmental Stewardship Manager
Lower Neches Valley Authority
By Joanne Brown and Tim Sudela

Jason Watson, Environmental Stewardship Manager at the Lower Neches Valley Authority since October 2019, was introduced by Scott Hall as guest speaker at the August 21 meeting of the Rotary Club of Beaumont. The quality of the water managed by the Lower Neches Valley Authority (LNVA) is periodically evaluated for its suitability for its customers. An ample supply of water is of no use unless it is quality water.

The LNVA is one of the 23 River Authorities created by the State of Texas to conserve, store, control, preserve, utilize, and distribute the waters of its respective area for the benefit of its residents. For over 70 years, independent academic and scientific institutions perform periodic monitoring of the water quality, with the most recent evaluation performed in October 2021. The audits evaluate multiple levels of the ecosystem which are a good indicator of the waterway’s health.

In Jason’s current role at LNVA, he is responsible for overseeing the Neches River Saltwater Barrier, aquatic vegetation control, the water quality lab, and the geographic information system program. Mr. Watson and his wife Candice are active members of North Hardin Baptist Church. They are dedicated to raising their two sons, Sawyer and Samuel, with strong values and a deep connection to their community.
