PROGRAM REVIEW
July 24, 2024

Lieutenant Cody Courts
Beaumont Police Department
By Joanne Brown and Tim Sudela

On July 24th Robert Kocot, Jr. introduced Lieutenant Cody Courts to speak to the Rotary Club of Beaumont. Lieutenant Courts is a lifelong resident of Southeast Texas. He graduated from Vidor High School and received a degree in psychology from Lamar University in 2006.

Lieutenant Courts continued his campaign of educating the Beaumont community about the benefits of the Beaumont Police Department’s Real-Time Crime Center (RTCC). There are several tools that the RTCC system is able to provide in real time to law enforcement personnel that help them solve cases more quickly and efficiently. For example, license plate readers are located in every law enforcement (LE) vehicle in addition to being fixed in strategic high crime areas. Vehicles registered to citizens with outstanding fines or warrants can be quickly identified and detained. Officers are even equipped with a QR code that allows the fines to be paid on site, which allows the citizens to clear the fine and be on their way.

Businesses may now provide the BPD with real time access to their on-site security cameras. LE personnel can then track criminals by monitoring the available business and city owned cameras in the proximity of the crime scene. Police can also type in a vehicle license plate number and view the historical locations where that vehicle travels frequently.

More information about the Real-Time system can be found at connectbeaumonttx.org.
