The Rotary Club of Beaumont, TX, is a large and diverse fellowship of inspired business, professional, and civic leaders with significant community connections that foster the ideals of Service Above Self and high ethical standards.
Laila Assanie is a senior business economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas. As a member of the Research Department’s regional group, she conducts research on regional economic issues, produces articles for various bank publications and contributes to the Dallas Fed’s website. Her other responsibilities include briefing the Bank’s president on regional economic conditions, coordinating the production of various economic updates and indicators for the Dallas Federal website and writing the Eleventh District Beige Book—the Bank’s survey of regional economic conditions.
Ms. Assanie' presentation will share the information she, as an Editor of the publication, documented in the second edition of a publication (December 2018) of the Federal Reserve Bank that takes "a comprehensive look at the industry clusters, history and demographics shaping eight of the state’s key metropolitan areas: Austin, Dallas, El Paso, Fort Worth, Houston, McAllen, Midland-Odessa and San Antonio. There are four new areas covered: Amarillo, Beaumont–Port Arthur, Lubbock and Tyler–Longview."
We welcome Ms. Assanie and a team of staff members from the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas who will join Rotarians for the meeting on Wednesday.

The final meeting of the 2018-2019 Rotary year is on June 25, and it is time to celebrate together the highlights of the year and those individuals who made contributions of time and talent to ensure another year of Club success. Most especially, we want to toast President Lynn Castle on a successful year and express our thanks for her many contributions!
The weekly meeting. in reception/social format, will be held on TUESDAY, JUNE 25 IN THE EVENING AT THE ART MUSEUM OF SOUTHEAST TEXAS instead of Wednesday at the Eleganté. There will NOT be a meeting at the Elegante on Wednesday, June 26.

DUES INVOICING AND THE BILLING CYCLE
Rotary operates financially at the club, district, and international levels. Dues, along with contributions to the Beaumont Rotary Foundation, support the work done at each level. Dues are billed to the individual at the club level, andthe club pays District and International dues on behalf of every member who is on the membership roster on January 1 and July 1.
In order for the club to pay dues to Rotary International on July 1, each member must be up-to-date on his/her dues to the Club no later than June 30, in advance of the July 1 assessment by Rotary International.
If your January 1 dues remain unpaid on Monday, June 30, you will be terminated in bad-standing, meaning you are ineligible for membership in this or any other Rotary Club until your past due amount has been paid. If your January 1 dues were not paid on time, you will receive a second copy of the past-due invoice along with the July 1 invoice by mail within the week. To prevent termination, you are required to pay both invoices by June 25, the date of the next meeting of the Board of Directors.
In order to make it as convenient as possible for you to submit a timely payment, the Board of Directors has requested that the invoices be sent to members 30-45 days in advance so that each member has adequate time to budget for the expense, process payment, and assure that the invoice is paid by June 30, 2019. To adhere to that guideline, invoices were sent electronically at the end of May.
Electronic invoices were sent last week to all who are in good-standing. If you requested to have a printed invoice mailed to you, it should be received within the week. Please phone the office or email admin@beaumontrotaryclub.org to request a different method of billing or payment. Members with a credit card on file will receive a receipt by email when your card has been charged, or you will be contacted if your credit card information needs to be updated.
If you wish, you can submit your credit card information to be kept on file so that payments are processed for you in advance of the deadline each time.
If you wish, you can make arrangements with the Executive Director to have your charge card processed for your dues in installments until the account is paid in full.

Did You Earn Perfect Attendance?
It is always a very special day when we have the opportunity to recognize club members for contributions to the successes of the year. President Lynn will present awards and recognition on June 25. She will also recognize those who have earned Perfect Attendance for the year either through meeting attendance, an eClub makeup, serving on and attending committee meetings, or attending a makeup event.
Did you submit a makeup for every meeting you missed? Do you know you can see your attendance report on the ClubRunner app? If you have not downloaded the CR app, do it now and/or get assistance at the next Rotary meeting.
As we assure that no one is omitted in the recognition process, please help us by reflecting on the year (July 1, 2018-June 2019). Reminder: while we are proud of new members who have had Perfect attendance since joining, the award is only for members of the club with at least one full year of membership. That means you had to have joined BEFORE July 1 of 2018 to earn the award this year.

"Why Don't My Kids Want My Stuff?"

Allen Lee introduced Mr. Harry Rinker and explained that he would let us know about our “Stuff” and what we should do about our “Stuff”. Harry is an appraiser and columnist with some very strong opinions about “Stuff”.
If your kids don’t want your stuff, he is adoptable! He is available to be that son or daughter who would love to have your collectibles and items that has found a home in your home. He and his wife found an abandoned school that was around 14,000 square feet. That school became their home and he filled it with over 50,000 objects. When he told his son that this would all be his one day, he was told by his son that he only wanted about 3 things. We all want to pass our treasures on to others but it’s the memories associated with the items that make them important.
Stories create the memories and the desire to keep something. Video items and tell the stories so that next generations can connect. Tell the stories as often as possible to keep the memories alive.
Some of the reasons that the kids don’t want the stuff are:
I don’t remember these things.
I have no use for it.
I have no place to store it.
I don’t want to pay for a storage unit.
How much does one need?
I can’t put it in the dishwasher.
It’s not the latest model.
My friends will laugh at me for having this.
I don’t want to have to move it.
Why should they want it? Well, the past is important and the objects tell us who we are from. We need to have items as place marks to anchor us to another time so we have an appreciation of where we are now.
So what do we do? When you want to pass something down it’s important to create the story. If it’s jewelry then maybe find a picture of a family member wearing it. If it’s a toy then maybe take pictures of different generations playing with it. If it’s a family heirloom write a letter asking that the item be kept in the family.
Accept that you can’t pass it all down. What do you do then? Give what you have to those who care. You do not need to treat everyone equally if there are those who show no interest in the gifting. Give with no strings attached. Once it’s given it’s gone. Sell what’s left, take the money and spend it! If they didn’t want the stuff then don’t give them the money.
Mr. Harry Rinker is a jolly, outspoken, opinionated lover of stuff. He spends his time talking about how to pass it on and how to create memories. We laughed at his stories and we came to understand that we collect because we want to collect. We are not collectors because we want to pass it on; we are collectors because we love our stuff! Then why don’t our kids want our STUFF?
