The Rotary Club of Beaumont was invited to participate in the Neches River Festival parade on Friday, April 13 in downtown Beaumont! What a great way to get the Rotary name out and about town!
Everyone is invited to participate by walking along the route with our decorated truck which new member, Ty Coudrain, has graciously agreed to drive for us. We will plan to throw candy to the children along the route, and have some fun! Come join us!

"Water: Fuel for the Economy and Lives"

Ivy Pate, Regional Vice President of Christus Hospital - Southeast Texas, introduced Scott Hall who is currently the General Manager of the Lower Neches Valley Authority (LNVA). Scott is married to Melanie and has four children.
Scott’s first comment was that the LNVA does not control any flood gates! They do however control and provide the water to our community. The LNVA provides for the present and long term freshwater needs of municipal, agricultural and industrial customers, protects water quality in the Neches River and Coastal Basin, insures affordability of the water supply, and enhances economic development in the Authority’s jurisdiction. Texas owns all of the surface water and the LNVA is responsible for the oversight of this resource.
In the mid-1920’s there were no stable water supplies and no reservoirs. Industry maintained their own reservoirs and the agricultural community did what they could do to provide for irrigation. Leaf Hillman, Director of the Karuk Tribe’s Department of Natural Resources, says that if a community is going to have stability then there must be a stable water supply. The LNVA is the independent governmental agency that was created in 1933 to do just that. It was recognized that the cheapest water that you can get is the water you already have.
The LNVA has no taxing authority. They are governed by a Board of Directors composed of 9 members appointed by the Governor of Texas – five from Jefferson County, two from Hardin County and two from Tyler County. The service area includes those three counties and the Eastern Chambers and Liberty Counties.
Today the Authority oversees and controls 5,600,000 ac-ft of water per year and 10,300 square miles of watershed. They serve the 250,000 citizens of our area as well as industry and agriculture. They monitor water quality and provide low interest loans or grants for infrastructure improvement and for private enterprise projects. Additional information may be found at lnva.dst.tx.us.
Water is what fuels our economy and our lives. We are fortunate to have the forward thinking LNVA to secure our futures and to provide us with the stability needed for growth and quality of life.
