Helms Pipe Organs
Thomas Helms was self-taught until his college years where he graduated with honors in organ performance and church music. Upon his graduation from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, he was awarded their coveted Performers Certificate for his excellence in multiple recitals. He has studied organ performance extensively in France, Germany and The Netherlands. He has served in many churches as organist and director of music including his tenure as director of sacred music for the diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee. As a composer he has written 26 film scores and 5 ballets. His score for “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde” was featured on National Public Television. As a pipe organ designer and builder he has been directly involved with the four largest pipe organs built in the United States in the last fifty years. His work in Pensacola includes the massive new organ for the First United Methodist Church, Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Pensacola Christian College, and the Saenger Theatre. With multiple recordings to his credit he travels internationally on concert tours playing his own compositions as well as the classic organ literature.

MEMORIAL RESOLUTION TO BE PRESENTED
Since the earliest days of the Rotary Club of Beaumont, it has been a tradition to record the passing of a member into Club history with the writing of a Memorial Resolution to document his/her service and contributions. The reading of the Resolution is an opportunity to reflect on the good deeds and significant impact the Rotarian had on the Club and the community. The formally printed document is given to the family members, added to the Club's archives, and entered into the records of the Tyrrell Historical Library.
On April 19, the club will recognize the life of former Rotarian Scot Babineaux, a member of the Rotary Club of Beaumont since 2014. The Resolution will be read by his long-time friend and fellow Rotarian, Cynthia Wolf.
His Rotary Classification was "Insurance - Home & Auto" and " Babineaux was the Owner/Agent of Scot Babineaux Insurance Agency. Scot Babineaux, a Rotarian since 2014, passed away on July 1, 2021.

ROTARY GOES TO SCHOOL
Join us as we head to Martin Elementary for our literacy project! The first step is for students to pick 10 books out of 40 options, which will take place April 28. Each Rotarian will have a checklist and will assist the students in choosing their selections. After the order has been placed and delivered, we will go back to help unpack, fill the book bags and distribute the bags for summer.

Beaumont Farmer's Market

The “gritty sisters” of the Beaumont Farmer’s Market began their quest in 2009 to develop Farmer’s Market in Beaumont, Texas. Sarah and Becki were inspired by visiting other locations where the local vendors could sell their farm goods and present those communities with fresh food. They discovered that six vendors declared an official farmer’s market, and they set off down farm roads in Jefferson County to find farmers who would participate in the project by stopping when they saw a farmer in the field to talk about their idea and to locate potential vendors.
In 2010 they secured their six vendors and after discussions with Kyle Hayes and Chris Boone they opened the market downtown at the public library and the adjoining parking lots in the area. The goal was to present an open-air market with local farming that would help new businesses thrive. After several years they realized that downtown was not the best location and sought out something that would work better and not depend on tents being put up every week.
The College Street Athletic Center became the new home for the market, and it has become a welcome event to Beaumont and the surrounding communities. The site averages five hundred visitors per Saturday and in the 14th year over twenty vendors now bring their produce, meat, and products for sale at the market. They can add up to five more vendors when additional produce items (blueberries and tomatoes in season, to mention a few) become available. Besides produce, there are homemade products, honey, eggs, bread, beef, chicken, pork, and shrimp.
In 2016 the Beaumont Farmer’s Market became a 501 c3 non-profit organization recognized by the IRS. The organization has developed goals, support for farmers and property, set objectives and goals and created a governing body, bylaws, and a mission statement. Although covid halted part of the market system, it is up and running again from mid-January to mid=December. The acceptance of SNAP by the market has allowed them to provide families in the system access to nutritious food and sustainability.
Becki and Sarah have more than achieved their goals, but they continue to work to make nutritious food and farm products available to our community.
