PROGRAM REVIEW
April 26, 2017

"Recognizing and Celebrating
Youth Programs & Projects"

by Bobbie Applegate

Jim Baxter began the Program today with presentations by Kelly and West Brook High School Interact Clubs.  Both clubs had busy service years with a variety of projects that benefited many local charities as well as one international project completed by each school.  The Interact Clubs presented the overview of the year through Powerpoint presentations of events and members working together.

Two new Interact clubs were introduced to members today.  Central High School was presented a charter for their new club with Rotary members Cindy Cherry, Bridget Johnson and Kathy Bachelot serving as sponsors.
Ozen High School was also presented a charter for their club, with Rotarians Karyn Hawkins Husbands and Sean Perrodin serving as sponsors.

Youth Service Above Self Awards were announced by Randy Shelton. President Ted Moor presented a certificate for the achievement to:

  •     Christian Guillory (Kelly High School) nominated by Roger Bemis
  •     Stefany Rico (Kelly High School) nominated by Gigi Mazolla
  •     Parsa Safa (Kelly High School) nominated by Craig Escamilla
  •     Jahniqua Berry (Ozen High School) nominated by Randy Shelton
  •     Kearra Ieans (Ozen High School) nominated by Randy Shelton
  •     Esmeralda  Allen (West Brook High School) nominated by Lynn Castle
  •     Emily Nguyen (West Brook High School) nominated by Pat Calhoun
  •     Peyton Parchmont (West Brook High School) nominated by Pat Calhoun
  •     Sarah Schilberg (West Brook High School) nominated by Pat Calhoun

The Rotary Scholarship will be awarded to two students from among 42 applicants.  These were announced by Chair Allen Lea, and the students accepted, with eloquent remarks.
  •     Lillie Shelton from Ozen High School.  Lillie will be attending Johns Hopkins University.
  •     Syed Bassam from West Brook High School.  Syed will be attending University of Texas at Austin.

What a great day to showcase what Beaumont’s youth are offering the future! Congratulations to all.
