This week we will receive a demonstration on the operation of an Iron Lung used by Polio victims to survive. Past District Governor, Hugh Summers and Past District Governor Leon Willhite, both from Palestine, will demonstrate the use of the Iron Lung on a local volunteer.
In addition, Leon will relate his experiences while providing Polio vaccine drops to children in India. Finally, we will be given a summary of major events in Rotary’s fight to eliminate Polio from our world by District 5910 Polio Plus Chair Jay Wilson and Past District Governor Roger McCabe.
Come and learn what great accomplishments have been achieved and what is left to complete the job of eradicating Polio from our world.

The Rotary Club of Beaumont’s Vocational Excellence Awards honor individuals who go above and beyond in their professions, exemplifying “service above self” through exceptional service, honesty, and kindness. This year's awards ceremony will take place on Wednesday, November 19.

The meeting opened with the presentation of colors and participants were led in the Pledge of Allegiance to both the U.S. and Texas flags, followed by an invocation led by Sheree Pierce. The conversation ended with a prayer for first responders, asking for their safety, wisdom, and emotional strength in their challenging roles. Misty and Jacques worked the registration table and Tim and Larry were on IT. The main portion of the meeting featured presentations from local officials and first responders about their experiences during ride-alongs with the Beaumont Fire Department, highlighting their dedication and use of advanced technology.
The meeting started a presentation by Kate Carroll, Jefferson County Tax Assessor Collector, who shared insights about her recent ride-along experience with the Beaumont Fire Department. Chief White, Cheryl Bilyeu and Mary Pat Jones also spoke, with Jones presenting a detailed account of her own ride-along experience, including visits to fire stations, emergency response calls, and training exercises at Spanky's Record Service.
The conversation ended with recognition of Captain Joseph Chance Abercrombie's bravery during a fire incident and announcements about upcoming Rotary events, including donations to the Fire Museum and various award programs.
The club announced upcoming events including the Vocational Excellence Awards program on November 19th and Polio Week on October 29th, which will feature an iron lung demonstration.
