(Noon Meeting) HARRIET CRITTENDEN LaMAIR
THE HIGH LINE CANAL CONSERVANCY

Harriet began her career in Washington, D.C., served as a policy analyst with Colorado Legislative Council, serving members on both sides of the aisle on policy issues ranging from social services and education to health care. Later she served as the Government Relations Officer for the Colorado Commission on Higher Education, to advance policies and funding for higher education. As a founder of the Cherry Hills Land Preserve and later the Executive Director, over 18 acres of natural areas valued at over $16 million were preserved.

Harriet was elected councilwoman in Cherry Hills Village in 2006 and reelected 2010, a former DRCOG board member and has served on numerous nonprofit boards.

For the past five years Harriet has driven the visionary work of the High Line Canal Conservancy, while serving as one of the founders and its Executive Director.  The Conservancy is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving, protecting and enhancing the High Line Canal as it transitions away from its historic use as an irrigation channel.  The Conservancy has received an American Planning Association gold award, COSA awards and others for this work to create a vital future for the 71-mile Canal.  The organization has successfully engaged over 5,000 citizens, partnering with 11 governmental jurisdictions, Mile High Drainage District and Denver Water to design a Community Vision Plan and now has completed a Framework Plan for all miles of the Canal.

Raised in Anchorage, Alaska, she earned a B.A. in English Literature from Colorado College, a master’s degree from Harvard Graduate School of Education in Educational Policy. She and her husband Mike have three terrific children, who along with their parents, actively enjoy everything outdoors.
