Our annual chili lunch fundraiser was a huge success this year.  It was inspiring to watch our Rotarians step up to the challenge.

The challenge of selling more tickets.

Our goal this year was to fund an international project - to raise $1800 to provide the Beverly Clinic in rural Uganda with solar panels to provide the clinic with electricity.  To encourage the selling of more tickets, the club was divided into teams - the team selling the most tickets would get a steak lunch.  I have never seen people go after a project like this.  Maybe it was the promise of steak, or maybe it was the purpose or maybe just the fun of competition - it doesn't really matter.  In a normal year we would hope to sell 300 tickets.  The first 300 tickets were sold in a week.  Another 400 were sold in two weeks.  At that point it was decided that no more tickets would be printed.

The challenge of making and serving more

There was a certain amount of apprehension among some of the members of the board.  After all, we had sold twice as many tickets as we had ever sold before.  That translates into making and serving twice as much chili as before.  The call went out for everyone who possibly could to work - and work they did.  Purcell Rotarians started early with making chili, bringing in coolers of ice, transporting the chili from the school kitchen to the church in warmers, serving chili, drinks and cookies, taking tickets and cleaning tables.  It was truly awesome to watch this group come together.

President Cody Barton summed it up the best:

I wanted to say how happy I was with the Chili Lunch.  It was a huge success, and it is all because of you guys!  As you already know the money raised from this years effort far exceed anything we have done in the past.  I cannot express enough how much I appreciate each and every one of you.  I honestly could not be more proud of our members.  Thank you all so much!

After the dust had settled, the club netted $3,500, the balance of which will be used for our other fundraising efforts.
