Dr. John Johnson was guest speaker at the 5-9-2013 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha.

 

The 20th Annual Chickasha Rotary Run is scheduled for Saturday, May 18, 2013 at Shannon Springs Park.

The 10K, 5K and 1mile fun run start 8 a.m. Participants should pick up packets and/or register at 7 a.m. on Race Day.

USATF/State Championship Series sanctions the 5K & 10K. The 10K course takes a scenic route through Cottonwood Creek Golf Course The fun run will take a route around the lake.

Awards in USATF age groups 12 & under through 75 & over, and 65 & over female

$1,000 Total Prize Purse including more than $600 in Merchant Door Prizes.

Entries must be received by May 16, 2013. You can register online by going to chickasharotary.org

President Cody White reports that the board of directors held its May meeting Friday, May 10. Below is a summary of actions taken:

The board voted to renew our Club Runner contract for the website for another year.

-- The Rotary Run is next Saturday.

-- The Board awarded Boy Scout Troop 4301 $500 for Summer Camp expenses.

-- The Board agreed to table a grant request from The Resurrection House and consider them as the primary beneficiary for the 2014 Rotary Run proceeds.

-- Bill Hodges was granted a medical leave of absence.

-- The Board agreed to send 3 students to RYLA camp this summer.

-- Greg Elliott and Cody White attended District Conference and reported on an award our club won for our membership retention this fiscal year.

President Cody encourages all Rotarians to help at the Run next Saturday.   He said the club will be making last minute preparations in the next 7 days.  Anyone willing to lend a hand, please contact Kory Kirkland.  

Greg Elliott reports that we are looking for a couple of campers for RYLA this summer and wanted to send a request to the club asking for nominations for students who will be a Senior in High School next fall, and who are looking for leadership opportunities.  The date for the camp is June 17th - 21st.  We need to have these campers submitted by the end of next week so the quicker we can hear back the better.  You can contact Greg directly at gelliott@standleys.com, or by cell # 203-5515. 
What is RYLA?
All RYLA programs encourage youth leaders and provide them with improved techniques of leadership. Their enthusiasm and technique are brought back to the community from which the campers were sponsored, thus impacting the young people being influenced by these youthful leaders.  RYLA introduces a large number of young people and their families to the Rotary ideals of service each year. It helps bridge the communication gap between the generations and helps improve relationships among youth groups, families and the community.

The Rotary Club of Chickasha was one of seven district clubs honored for membership development at the May 2-4 District Convention in Norman. Other clubs honored included Ada, Altus, Elk City, Hobart, Moore and Norman Sooner.

OSU Extension Service ag educator Brook Bradbury was guest speaker at the 5-2-2013 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha.

Members of the Rotary Exhange team from Italy visited many Chickasha institutions and business, including HSI Sensing. The group was hosted by the Rotary Club of Chickasha from Saturday, April 20 until Wednesday, April 24.

Peggy McMahan, marketing director for the Grady County Fairgrounds and Jerry Arthur, fair board member, were guest speakers at the 4-11-2013 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha.

Guest speakers at the 4-4-2013 meeting of the Rotary Club were Jeff Robb and Chris ZumMallen who run the farm operations at the El Reno Federal Correctional Center.

Brenda Short from the Women's Care and Pregnancy Center was guest speaker at the 3-28-2013 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha.

Josh Butler, well test operations manager at Select Energy Services was guest speaker at the 3-21-2013 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha.

 

 

Mark your calendar and register now for the 2013 District Assembly. The date is April 13th from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.  The location is the University of Science and Arts (USAO) in Chickasha.  The Ballroom address is 1727 West Alabama Avenue.
The purpose of the annual assembly is to prepare incoming Rotary club leaders for their roles. Primary participants are club presidents-elect and the members of Rotary clubs assigned by the president-elect to serve in key leadership roles in the upcoming Rotary year; however, ALL ROTARIANS are invited to attend.
Club Foundation chairs are encouraged to attend and learn about the changes to The Rotary Foundation (TRF) and district grants programs as a result of the RI Future Visions program. These changes are effective on July 1, 2013. All clubs should be represented to learn how to effectively prepare for and be certified to apply for future grants. Don't let your club be left out because no one attended this valuable training.
Help will be available throughout the day for club secretaries and members who need assistance using the district ClubRunner website.
The $15.00 registration fee includes assembly materials and lunch. Advance registration is needed to plan for meals.

Megan Williams, an economist with the Oklahoma City Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, was guest speaker at the 3-14-2013 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha.

Rotarian and attorney Bob Hayes was guest speaker at the 3-8-2013 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha.

Kim O'Brien of the American Red Cross was one of two speakers from the organization at the 2-28-2013 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha.

The club's Polio Plus chairman Conrad Duprez was guest speaker at the 2-21-2013 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha.

Warren Martin, curator of the Gen. Tommy Franks Leadership Institute and Museum was guest speaker at the 2-14-2013 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha.

Former member John Allen, president of the Bank of Verden, has rejoined the club. He was proposed by brother Jim (auto) Allen, who presented John his new Rotary Pin after he was inducted back into the club by President Cody White.

Chickasha Chamber of Commerce board member Sam Griffin was the guest speaker at the 2-7-2013 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha.

 

The Bi-District Rotary Foundation Banquet will be
next Friday, Feb. 8 at the NCED Conference Center and Hotel in Norman. RI President Sakuji Tanaka and our district's own President-Elect, Ron Burton will speak.

Chickasha Rotary President Cody White is planning to attend and has room in his vehicle if you would like to join him. He needs to know by Monday, Feb. 4 because that is the deadline to register for the Banquet.

At the 1-24-2013 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha, Pastor Michael Butler of First Baptist Church was bestowed by President Cody White as a Paul Harris Fellow, courtesy of Elmer Kuntz. Through his service to the community, Pastor Butler clearly demonstrates the ideals of Rotary, including service above self.

Two new members were inducted at the 1-24-2013 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha -- Gordon Ramsey and Christy Elkins. Gordon, clinc administrator at Five Oaks Medical Group, was sponsored by Mike Nunamaker. Christy is the director of the Chickasha Economic Development Council. Her sponsor was Tom Rose. Rotary Club of Chickasha President Cody White presents a check for $2,000 to Erik Mottinger of Dunn's Food Center.  The Chickasha Rotary Club received a grant for $1,500 from Rotary District 5770 to purchase food to stock the Chickasha Emergency Food Pantry for one month.  The Chickasha club matched the grant with $500.  Pictured (left to right):  Glenn Orendorff, Cody White, Erik Mottinger, Conrad Duprez, Michael Oberlender.

Rotary Club of Chickasha President Cody White last week presented a check for $250 from the club to Kathy Tibbetts of  Friends of the Library. Friends of the Library is having a Valentine Chocolate Celebration on Feb. 13 to raise money for the Chickasha Public Library to purchase kid-friendly computers. For $6, those attending the 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. event on Feb. 13 at the library will receive their choice of six chocolate dessert selections, all placed in a box sealed with a sticker and a ribbon. For tickets or more information, contact committee members, Angie Lewis, 779-6969, Catharine Cook, 222-6075, Kathy Tibbetts, Christy Clift, Donna Elledge or Elizabeth Lucas.

Just in time for the Oscars, "A Rotary Christmas Carol" made its debut at the Jan. 17 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha. Starring Chris Mosley and a cast of thousands, the moral of the story is don't miss Rotary meetings.

Sharon Bowman of First National Bank of Chickasha is the Rotary Club of Chickasha's newest member. She was sworn in by President Cody White at the 1-17-2013 meeting. Paul Garrett was her sponsor.

Here is a summary from President Cody White of the Friday, 1-11-2013 Board meeting.

• Current membership is up to 85 (+4 new members to be initiated)
• Rotary Run committee is gearing up for our May 19th Run.
• Nathan Donald has a meeting set with USAO to further discuss establishment of our Rotaract Club.
• We voted to award $250 to the Chickasha Friends of the Library
• The board voted to make Chickasha Mobile Meals the primary beneficiary of the funds raised at the Rotary Run.
• Four new members were approved:  G rady Ramsey (Proposed by Mike Nunamaker), Christy Elkins (Proposed by Tom Rose), T.C. Cannon (Proposed by John Holt), and Sharon Bowman (Proposed by Pauline Garrett)
• President Elect Greg Elliott will be attending President Elect Training (PETS) in Dallas March 1-3.
• The board voted to sponsor the Chickasha Junior Leadership Class through the Chamber of Commerce
• Officer Installation will be June 27 at the Vo-Tech

Dr. Mark Hall, a member of the Singing Churchmen of Oklahoma, was the guest speaker at the 1-10-2013 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha.

Rotary Club of Chickasha President Cody White recently accepted a $1,000 check from Jim Allen of Charles Allen Ford. Ford Motor Company donated $500, which was matched by Charles Allen Ford, as part of a recent nationwide promotion to unveil the 2013 Ford Fusion.

The Chickasha Rotary Club produced a movie circa 1991.  The 26-minute mini-movie was aimed at "attendance retention" and stressed the importance of rotary attendance for members.  The movie is a play on "It's a wonderful life" and "Giligian's Island", with a unique twist.  The Skipper (Richard Varley) who usually skips the Thursday Rotary meetings, comes up with a hypothesis relating his rotary skipping to the type of peanut butter he eats.  Some club members help him to debunk the idea (or do they?).  The Skipper then falls asleep where two rotary angels visit him and take him on a tour of what the world would be like if the Skipper had never been born.

Grady County Sheriff Jim Weir was the guest speaker at the 1-3-2013 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha.

Grady County Fairgrounds marketing director Peggy McMahan was guest speaker at the 12-27-2012 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha.

Rotarian Ron Sanders, sporting a pair of bright red Christmas socks, was the guest speaker at the 12-20-2012 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha.

Chickasha Police Chief Eddie Adamson was guest speaker at the 12-6-2012 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha. Chief Adamson gave a very informative presentation on Oklahoma new open carry weapons law.

Members of the Chickasha High School Robotics team demonstrated for the Rotary Club of Chickasha on its 11-29-2012 meeting the robot used in last year's FIRST Robotics competition.

Rotarian Mitch Williams, owner of Chickasha Wings, was guest speaker at the 11-15 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha.

President Cody White presented a $250 check from the Rotary Club of Chickasha to the Grady County Reading Council. Accepting the donation on behalf of the Reading Council was Ginger Wilson. Ginger thanked the club and said the money would be used for speakers, professional development for teachers and to fund the Outstanding Reader Celebration every spring.

Pat Cunningham, director of the Grady County Historical Society Museum, was guest speaker at the 11-1-2012 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha.

The following is a report by President Cody White about the Friday, Nov. 9 board meeting:

• Voted to fully fund the Chickasha Food Pantry for one month; $1,500 from our District Simplified Grant, and $500 from the club
• Named "Open Arms" as the primary beneficiary for our December 11th Silent Auction and iPad raffle.  Open Arms is a local organization that provides direct support for DHS Foster Children and Foster Homes.  " Open Arms seeks to meet the physical, spiritual and emotional needs of Grady County foster families and the children they lovingly accept into their homes".  Additional beneficiaries will be determined at a later date.
• Voted to match all Rotary Foundation Donations with points toward Paul Harris Fellowships in the month of December.
• Voted to proceed with plans to establish a Rotaract Club at USAO for January 2013 with Nathan Donald spearheading the effort

Guest speaker for the 10-25-2012 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha was U.S. Rep. Tom Cole, R-OK.

Our guest speaker at the 10-12-2012 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha was Thomas Hannon, excutive director of the Chickasha Opportunity Workshop.

Amy Sutton, associate pastor at First Christian Church, was inducted as the newest member of the Rotary Club of Chickasha. After being sworn in by President Cody White, Amy received her Rotary Pin from her club sponsor, Michael Oberlender. Amy is from Dallas and attended undergraduate and graduate school at Baylor University.

Marcy Langle, president of the Festival of Light board, was the guest speaker at the 10-11-2012 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha.

New Chickasha Economic Development Director Christy Elkins was the guest speaker at the 10-4 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha.

Dan Andrulonis spoke at the 9-27-2012 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha about the faith-based addiction support program Celebrate Recovery.

Lynn Bailey was inducted Sept. 20, 2012 as the newest member of the Rotary Club of Chickasha. After being administered the Rotary oath by President Cody White, Lynn's sponsor Charlie Burruss presented the new member his Rotary pin. Lynn is a former Rotarian in Coffeyville, KS. Lynn, an OSU graduate, and his wife have two grown children. He operates an Edward Jones agency at 1201W. Grand.

Norman Sooner Club Rotarian Bob Usry has been involved with the RYLA Summer Camp for 19 years. He was the guest speaker at the 9-20-2012 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha.

Patrice Douglas of the Oklahoma Corporation Commission was the guest speaker at the 9-13-2012 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha.

Rotarian, Chickasha Mayor and owner of Ross Health Care Hank Ross spoke on the affordable health act at the 9-6-2012 meeting. He is shown with his shameless promotion of Hank bobble-head pens.

USAO history professor Dr. James Finck was our guest speaker at the 8-30-2012 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha.

President Cody White inducted Scott Biggs into the club as its newest member on Thursday, Aug. 23, 2012. Scott is a former assistant district attorney who earlier this year opened a private law practice in Chickasha. Scott is a candidate for House District 51. He is the nephew of former club member Susan Winchester. Cody was his sponsor.

Grady County Emergency Management Director Dale Thompson was the guest speaker at the 8-23-2012 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha.

Guest speaker at the 8-16-2012 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha was Chickasha High School Football Coach Tom Cobble.

Mitch Williams, flight instructor and owner of Chickasha Wings, was inducted into the Rotary Club of Chickasha on Thursday, Aug. 16, 2012. Mitch is a native of Kansas who moved to Anadarko after college graduation to pursue an engineering career at an electric co-op. He got interested in flying after his wife wanted to learn how and the advocation has turned into a vocation. He was sponsored by David Sikes. Welcome to the club Mitch!.

Cody White was installed as the 2012-13 President of the Rotary Club of Chickasha, succeeding Michael Oberlender at the 6-28-2012 Installation Luncheon at USAO.

Rhoinda Large of Wildcare Oklahoma was guest speaker at the 6-21-2012 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha.

Game Warden Mark Murray was guest speaker at the 6-14-2012 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha.

Lisa Bahash, president and CEO, Ride Control, LLC, was guest speaker at the 6-7-2012 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha.

About 160 runners participated in the May 19 Chickasha Rotary Run.

Dr. Robert Brooks of the OU Speaker's Bureau was our speaker for the 5-24-2012 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha.

Dr. William Beasley of the OU Speaker's Bureau and a former dean of the OU School of Meteorology, was our speaker for the 5-31-2012 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha.

City of Chickasha Special Projects Director Steve Chapman was our guest speaker at the 5-17-2012 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha.
