Rotarian of the day Nathan introduced the program YMCA District Executive Director – Mike Roark.  He shared about the new YMCA opened in the YMCA.  He has many connections to Chickasha.  He went to school at Cameron.  He is a Rotarian in the Edmond area.  They just finished the processes of awarding college scholarships.  He asked if anyone knew the YMCA sports pledge and found that no one in the club knew it.  He sighted Nathan in a fun way of not doing his job.
For the YMCA in Edmond back in 2005 they had 10,000 members.  They were busting at the seams and started talking with the city to build a new building.  On Feb 3 2014 they open the new building The Mitch Park YMCA.  The city of Edmond knew the importance of a recreational center but they did not want to run one.  So they partnered with the YMCA.  The cost for the building was 25.4 million with 103 sq feet with 300 parking spots. Lots of open space and natural light.  They have 30,000 members to this date.  They have a competitive pool aquatics center.  The schools use the pool for the swim teams.  They are looking at a 5 year plan to look into doing an outdoor center too. 1/10 of a mile suspended track.  Cardio and free weight center as well as a gymnasiums. He feels that the YMCA has become a hub for the city.  A place that builds community.  He then shared pictures of the new building and the many things it brings to the community.  The property belongs to the city and the YMCA runs it.  Because of that the people of the community feel a part of it and a since of ownership.
He then opened up to questions.
