Game Warden Mark Murray was guest speaker at the 6-14-2012 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha.


The June 14, 2012 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha opened with a prayer, pledge and song.

Guests included Aaron Elyachar, Evan Blasingame and Logan and Tanner Tibbetts.

Prayer concerns include Ann Harralson and Bill and Janice McVey.

President Michael Oberlender made the following announcements:

-- Members can buy leftover Rotary Run T-Shirts for $5 a shirt.

-- The installation luncheon is June 28 at USAO.

-- Members need to update contact information and classifications for the new club directory.

Rotarian of the day was Jim (TV) Allen who introduced Game Warden Mark Murray as our guest speaker.

Murray has a been a game warden since 2008. His primary job responsibility is to enforce hourly and fishing laws. They also teach hunter safety classes, do pond inspections and conduct archery classes.

He said this time of the year a big portion of his job is fishing violations, including noodling.

He wild hogs continue to be a big problem in Grady County.

"The hog population is getting worse," he said.

Murray said Canadian Geese are also a problem but not much can be done because they are federally protected migratory bird.

He said the mountain lion that was killed recently near Minco was determined through DNA testing to have migrated here from North Dakota.

The meeting adjourned after recitation of the Rotary 4-Way test.
