Fulfilling Our Promises to the Men and Women Who Served
 
 
The November 1, 2018 meeting was called to order by Pres. John Gorton.  The prayer was provided by Rot. John Mosley and the pledge by Rot. Cody White.  Our talented music leader, Rot. Mitch Williams, lead the group in the song “”Til the Last Shot’s Fired” by Trace Adkins.  The Rotarian of the Day was Jason Jarnagin who introduced Deputy Mike Chavers, Senior Vice Commander and Service Officer with the Disable American Veterans (DAV) Chapter 17, Grady County.  Catering was provided by Chicken Express.

Michael Chavers was born and raised in Chickasha, OK, graduating from Chickasha High School in 1990. He joined the United States Army in 1991 as an infantryman, attending basic training and advanced individual training at Fort Benning, Georgia and retiring from Fort Sill, Ok in 2013 after twenty two years of service. Michael has held numerous leadership positions, graduating the First Sergeant’s Course, Detachment Commander’s Course, the Senior Leader’s Course, Basic Non Commissioned Officer’s Course, the Warrior Leadership Course and Drill Instructor’s Course. Some of his awards include the Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Combat Infantry Badge, Expert Infantry Badge,  Parachutist’s Badge, and the Air Assault Badge.  Michael holds a Master’s and Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and an Associate of Arts degree from Central Christian College in McPherson, Kansas and is a member of the Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society. Michael currently serves with the Grady County Sheriff’s Office as a Patrol Deputy Sheriff and School Resource Officer. He also serves as the Senior Vice Commander and Service Officer for the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 17.  Michael is married to Andrea Chavers, who also retired from the U.S. Army, and they have five children and one grandchild.
