Salvation Army Board Member Randy Talley was the guest speaker at the 11-8-2012 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha.

The Nov. 8 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha opened with a prayer, pledge and a song.

Guests included Paul Lewis, Delanie Berry and Justin Wallace.

Prayer concerns include Jerry Mottinger.

President Cody White presented a $250 check from the Rotary Club of Chickasha to the Grady County Reading Council. Accepting the donation on behalf of the Reading Council was Ginger Wilson. Ginger thanked the club and said the money would be used for speakers, professional development for teachers and to fund the Outstanding Reader Celebration every spring.

Delanie Berry, executive director of the Grady County United Fund invited Rotarians to the agency's annual campaign kickoff baked potato luncheon at CVTC on Friday.

Charles Allen Ford is hosting an event at the dealership on Nov. 15 that could mean up to a $1000 for the Rotary Club. Jim Allen said participants in the Go Further With Ford event from 1-5 p.m on Nov. 15 can register to win a 2013 Ford Focus and a chance for a VIP trip to see a taping of American Idol. For each person up to 50 that participates that day, Ford will donate $10 which will be matched by Charles Allen Ford. If 50 people sign up, that means $1000 for the Rotary Club. Jim it won't take but a couple of minutes to do.

President Cody said the board is considering establishing a Rotaract Club for college students at USAO. He asked that anyone interested in helping form the club please contact him.

Rotarian of The Day Tom Rose introduced Salvation Army Board member Randy Talley, who was filling in for the Army's James Biddix.

Randy said the Salvation Army has served the Chickasha area for 89 years. Some of its programs include disaster relief, youth programs and the annual Red Kettle Drive, which officially kicks off.

All the money collected locally, stays locally. They are having to pay bell ringers. He urged the Rotarians to sign up online to man the bells. The 2012 goal is $50,000.

The drive helps fund the Angel Tree program which helps kids have a merry Christmas who otherwise wouldn't.

John Grote reminded Rotarians that volunteers are needed at the FOL on Nov. 20 and 21.

The meeting adjourned after recitation of the Rotary 4-Way test.
