Guest speaker for the 10-25-2012 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha was U.S. Rep. Tom Cole, R-OK.

The Oct. 25, 2012 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha opened with a prayer, pledge and song.

Guests included Paul Lewis and Ryan Posey, co-chairs of Leadership Chickasha and 25 members of the current class. Other guests: Walt and Leann Voss, Jim Tibbetts, Marvin Quinn, Seth DeHart, Jacoby Jarnigan and Ann Fairburn.

Prayer concerns include Jerry Mottinger and Bill and Janice McVey.

Rotarian of the Day Jim Parker introduced U.S. Rep. Tom Cole, R-OK, as our guest speaker.

Cole spokes on the state of the U.S. government on the even of the Nov. 6 election. He is running for a sixth term representing Oklahoma's 4th Congressional District.

His titled his talk "The Good, The Bad & The Ugly"

Among the good:

-- Numerous compromises

-- Extension of tax cuts

-- Agreed on $60 billion in budget cuts

-- Debt Ceiling

-- Free trade agreements

Among the bad:

-- Huge of amount of thing left undone, awaiting the outcome of the election, including extension of the Bush tax cuts and  $1.2 trillion in budget cuts

The Ugly: The 12 days left before the Presidential race, which he called the most consequential in our lifetimes.

The meeting adjourned after recitation of the Rotary 4-Way test.
